Age Group Rank = 9/
Pre-race routine:

Headed out at 5:30 and arrived at 7:00. Ate the normal bagel and banana and had a Diet Coke. Who can't start the day without a Diet Coke??
Event warmup:

Just walked around with my brother and niece.
Swim
  • 09m 28s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 09s / 100 yards
Comments:

I had not done any swimming since last August so I can't complain about my performance. It wasn't terrible but I sure was working hard at it. I was in the last wave #16 so I was swimming over a few people and many doing the side stroke, treading water, etc...
What would you do differently?:

TRAIN!!
Transition 1
  • 03m 42s
Comments:

I was a little light headed as I came out of the water. Maybe lack of any swimming :-) but I still managed to jog into transition. Always takes me a little while to get the feet dry, socks on, and into the shoes.
Bike
  • 28m 45s
  • 9 miles
  • 18.78 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 01m 54s
What would you do differently?:

I don't think I could have done anything different. I felt pretty good coming off the bike. My legs were not tired. Maybe I could have pushed more on the bike. Who knows?
Run
  • 19m 41s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 07m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

For some reason this 2.5 miles felt like a long time. I am used to running approximately 25 miles a week but about a half a mile into it, I felt like I should be turning around anytime. It was good though. It was fun to pass some people here. I guess that's one good thing about starting in the last wave, you're beating anyone you pass.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around with my family. My mom and dad came to cheer us on along with my husband and two girls. Teenage son decided 5:15 was just too early to get up to watch his mom compete.

Event comments:

Well organized. I have always heard good things about HOLT so I was glad to have the opportunity to participte. I was glad the day had the weather it did. The two days prior to it had been cool (65, 70) with lots of clouds and wind. Today was gorgeous. It started off cool (50) but when the sun came out, it was PERFECT!

Course: The course was a little hillier than I thought. For some reason, I thought it was flat. No big deal though. I felt really good. I passed many people and was only passed by 2. I enjoyed this shorter course since I have only done about 60 miles on the bike this season. Great course.
