Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5.30 oatmeal, bread, banana, set area up.
Event warmup:

10 minute run followed by a lot of stretching.
Swim
  • 07m 14s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

I managed to get into the first wave, which was elites, so i did not really get bumped and could hang onto someones draft. I navigated fairly well. Ran into one bouy....Didnt get caught by the next wave til 50 meters to go.
What would you do differently?:

I bought a wetsuit after the race. I was shocked at my swimming split, usuallly i hover around 2 min, not 1.39. It may have been the salty water.
Transition 1
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

Decided to sit to get shoes and socks on. prob a mistake, but it helped me get focused. Wasnt my fastest.
What would you do differently?:

Stay upright
Bike
  • 35m 7s
  • 11.4 miles
  • 19.48 mile/hr
Comments:

Disapointing, i told myself i would save some on the bike and blow by people on the run. On the loop, the first half i was flying down averaging about 21. Then on the way back the headwind and slight incline dropped my speed. Also the turn around was wet....idk why, there was a good chance of a wipeout. Using the aerobars in a race for the first time went great and the gel i ate at mile 10 got all over my hands..
What would you do differently?:

Push harder and trust my ability as a good runner.
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Pretty solid, lock laces helped, my spot required me to carry my bike for a decent distance.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 20m 25s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

Good thing i can run, i felt good and went fast. Picking people off one by one and i did not get passed once. Probably because the best runners were way ahead of me. I really picked it up the last .5 miles and pushed hard.
What would you do differently?:

Like most people, i feel like i could have given a little bit more and dropped down to a 6 min mile and finished with a 19 min 5k.
Post race
Warm down:

Ran a mile and stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bike speed, need more time on the road...not the trainer!!!

Event comments:

Thanks to rob for putting me up for a night and putting together a good race.
