![]() Swim
Comments: This was the most difficult out of all the disciplines today. When my age started, the swells started to pick up big time. I think it took me 10 mins alone to get to the first buoy. I have never swam in a swell before, so I was just trying to dive under the big waves, but after coming up each time, there was a bigger wave that came in that set me back a little bit. I was disppointed in the swim, but glad I survived. It took a lot out of energy of the bike and run for me. I usually swim a 26 min mile, which isn't great, but 38 mins today, atleast for me, was a disappointment. Glad I survived the swells though. What would you do differently?: Honestly, to tell the truth, I don't konw what I would do if I encountered the swells again like that. When the wave started, I started in the middle of the pack, the guys in front were able to avoid the big waves. I on the other was not. Not sure what I would do here other than try to become a sronger swimmer. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Since this was a Pt. to Pt. I had to make sure to put all of my stuff in the bag, which didn't take long, but did take time. What would you do differently?: Take off cap, goggles and suit off as soon as I am on my way out of the water. ![]() Bike
Comments: The swim took a lot out of me so I was trying to adjust and get into my bike mode. Out of the 3, I think biking is the strongest. Been averaging 22-23 mph. Was hoping for a finish of 1hr 5 mins, but oh well, next time. Had to stop for about 1 mins or so to adjust my areo drink. Also, my back was getting really sore. Had to power through it. Had trouble clipping into the pedals Wasn't as smoothe as I wanted What would you do differently?: Train for hills, get a bike fit, adjust and set my drink holders before the race. Practice getting onto the bike with the shoes already clip onto the pedals. ![]() Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Unstrap from shoes and run bare foot. ![]() Run
Comments: The Run was horrible. Had a side cramp throughout the entire run and legs were not as strong as I wanted it to be. Been averaging a 7:30-45/ mile so I was hoping to be in the same area. But could not come close to that. Right toe felt like it was about to fall off. That hill was excruciating the 2nd time around. What would you do differently?: Hill training, more bike to run brick training, speed workouts, leg weight training. Practice drinkin and eating gels on the run. Practice longer strides. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Eat bananas, stretched out and played some street fighter 4 with some buddies What limited your ability to perform faster: Did not eat a good meal the night before, and dinner was also pretty late. More rest ( could not sleep at all because I was too excited). More water throughout the week, better dieting during race week. Event comments: The people were really encouraging. I found out that I also got a 2 min penalty and I have no idea why. Trying to figure out what happened. Goal was 2:30, going to try again next year again, and shoot for under 2:30 Last updated: 2009-07-20 12:00 AM

Got up at 5:00 AM, ate 2 bananas, and headed out to the transition area. Got my area set up, and listened to some music.
Got into the water for a little bit and swam a bit.
