Pre-race routine:

First race I've done without my friends or someone to ride with. I actually enjoyed the drive by myself with some good music blaring. I figured blowing my eardrums would be a good idea before the race. Got there WAY too early, about 5:45 because I miscalculated the drive time. It was nice to not be rushed during check-in and I got body marked before there was a line. Went back to my car, prepped my bike there and listened to more music.
Karl found me as I was setting up my T and chatted with him for a bit. The guy next to me was nervous because it was his first race, so I showed him how to set up his area.
Event warmup:

Went for a 2 minute warm up swim, but the water felt like a toilet that had just been used by a 100 people, so I got out pretty quickly.
Stood in my cap color group line. JamesReeves was standing in front of me. We had a nice chat. See "when you meet BT'ers in real life" thread:

Swim
  • 10m 49s
  • 530 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was the second race I've done where they started the racers 2 by 2. I really like it. Much easier to pass people.
What would you do differently?:

Learn what the hell is keeping me so slow! I can swim, OW doesn't phase me, but I'm still slow.

(taking swimming lessons now)
Transition 1
  • 02m 6s
Comments:

There was a really long stretch from the lake to T1. I ran the whole way, but I don't feel like my time reflects my true speed and skills.
Bike
  • 41m 51s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 17.78 mile/hr
Comments:

I cannot believe my average was over 16mph, much less 17! This is a first. I think its because this was just my second sprint, and I'm not used to a short bike time. I don't count the first sprint because I was sick and just 'rode' at about 14mph.
What would you do differently?:

Get better at opening my E-gels on the bike. I couldn't rip the top open with my teeth and ended up getting the crap all over my hands. Used my water bottle to rinse off. Wasted time.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

First place in T2 time in my AG!
I usually have quick T2 times, but this was the fastest. I used Yankz for the first time this race, and that is where the speed came from. They are wonderful, I suggest everyone try them.
What would you do differently?:

NOTHING!
Run
  • 24m 53s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m  min/mile
Comments:

I was really suprised at my 8min/mile pace. I figured I was running closer to a 9. I even walked 2 water stops.
What would you do differently?:

Not walk the water stops! Who cares if I get it all over my face? there was already the E-gel situation, so what did it matter?
Post race
Warm down:

Karl met me at the finish, I'm glad he was there since I didn't have anyone to cheer me on at the race.
Massage and pizza with James! Nice to be done early enough and only had to wait about 5 minutes for a massage before the line got long.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need to fine tune swimming. My other 2 events seem to be coming around, unless the bike was a fluke (could have been!).

Event comments:

2nd in my AG.
