Overall Rank = 57/378
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 6/23
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30 with Mom and ate the usual cheerios with sliced bananas and orange juice. Watched the weather channel and bundled up. On the road at 5:30.
Event warmup:

Short jog around the transition area. Little ride on my bike around the parking lock to check the gears. Pulled on my wetsuit and stretched on the beach with other racers. Boogied down to some music (quite the sight with our tight wetsuits and swim caps) while we waited for the delay (car accident on the freeway slowed down a lot of racers and Chris from getting there on time)
Swim
  • 16m 47s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

The jump in, tread water start wasn't as a surprise after knowing it was coming from my experience last year. The water didn't feel very cold with my wetsuit on. I felt like I did a lot better navigating, not going off course very much, and staying close to the buoys.
What would you do differently?:

I had a hard time getting into my rhythm after taking some time off from swim practice, so I wish I could have gone faster.
Transition 1
  • 04m 10s
Comments:

I didn't have trouble peeling off my wetsuit from the wait up. My T1 was held up a little with my wetsuit, but I stayed calm, swallowed my pride, sat on the ground and pulled it over my heels. I did well running with the bike and clipping into my pedals.
What would you do differently?:

The run from the swim to my bike was painful. It was almost a mile and on slippery cold mud or cold hard asphalt. I don't know how to not make my feet hurt there.
Bike
  • 39m 51s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.07 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt pretty solid for the whole bike ride. I kept trading places with this one lady, passing her on the uphill, then she would pass me on the down hill. She says "gravity works FOR me in this direction".
What would you do differently?:

I had a hard time eating the clif bar, so I'm going to try the gu (gross). I would also like to get aerobars for next year so I don't lose so much ground on the downhill.
Transition 2
  • 02m 28s
Comments:

I got a little lost and started off running in the wrong direction. Luckily a nice volunteer pointed me the right way.
What would you do differently?:

I would put my hat on while running.
Run
  • 37m 29s
  • 4.04 miles
  • 09m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt sluggish on this run. I definitely was pushing myself, with Crystal running beside me and cheering each other on, but I had a rough time recovering from 'cardiac hill'...twice.
What would you do differently?:

I would train on hills and do intervals more. I really want to speed up my run time.
Post race
Warm down:

Just some hugs from my mom and Chris. Snacked on the food they had there and walked around the booths

Event comments:

I loved coming back to the uplifting atomosphere of this race. My performance was what I expected and I am proud for doing well, but I'm still going to try to do better next year. I really enjoyed seeing my mom and Chris out on the course, it makes all the difference
