Pre-race routine:

set up transition
Event warmup:

5 min practice swim, stretching
Swim
  • 33m 14s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was the worst swim I have had all season. For one thing I got stuck in a MEAN pack of girls! Punched, pushed, swam over and kicked. It was not fun. I had trouble getting my stoke and breathing down. This swim felt like it took FOREVER!
What would you do differently?:

start up front and get a head start of the mid packers...why do I always start in the back??
Transition 1
  • 02m 53s
Comments:

This was just a long transition run in and out on the bike....
What would you do differently?:

wash the sand off my feet!
Bike
  • 1h 15m 42s
  • 23 miles
  • 18.23 mile/hr
Comments:

The course was bumpy and had some pot holes along the way. I just really didn't like that there was no big downhills or hills at all! This course was below average in my opinion. Plus the added trip into the community college was ridiculous..
What would you do differently?:

take another enduralyte on the second half...
Transition 2
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

eh..same ol
What would you do differently?:

darn sand!
Run
  • 1h 02m 53s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Well CGI has some great volunteers again. There were 8 water stations serving water and warm (yuck!) heed. Cold towels again were a major plus! Hammer gels on the run a great thing too!
What would you do differently?:

not walked so much...but DAYUM....it was HOT!
Post race
Warm down:

got some post race grub and sat on the grass. I ended up eating 2 oatmeal rasin cookies and a real coke! It has been years since I had a REAL COKE. was nice! (I know cookies are not good to eat...but hey..the pasta was too aldente!)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

HEAT

Event comments:

This race was OK. I did not like that the Olympic had to start after the sprint. I got to race site at 5:30 am and didn't hit the water until around 9:20! That is a lot of standing around. As usual, Larry was fun to listen to on the mike. He kept things lively and that was nice. I did see a father who raced with his physically/mentally challenged son, Brandon. He pulled him in a life raft on the swim, biked with him and pushed him on the run!!! That guy was strong! Brandon must have weighed about 65 lbs! It was inspirational to say the least :)
