Age Group Rank = 8/11
Pre-race routine:

drive to Greenville with Connor - - pick up packet - - drive bike and run course with Mike; oatmeal and hot tea for breakfast; use light from cell phone to pump air in bike tires (pitch black at 6am) - - set up transition area
Event warmup:

got in pool and swam 100 meters (water is warm) - - - sat in stands with family until time to line up for my number
Swim
  • 09m 1s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

water was only 4-5 feet deep for entire 400 meters - - people seeded themselves incorrectly - - -I kept passing tons of people - - - swimming was STRONG - - - good strong stroke
What would you do differently?:

seed my time at faster pace (even faster than I think)
Transition 1
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

excellent transition - - - run to bike - - - gloves still tricky - -consider not wearing them for events??
Bike
  • 56m 58s
  • 15 miles
  • 15.80 mile/hr
Comments:

kept pace at about 8-9mph on hills - - excellent job - - down hill speed real good (max pace 33.7 - - could have been better - had to slow for corner at bottom of hill); kept upper body relaxed on climbs, stretched arms occassionally; 17-20 mph on straightaways;
What would you do differently?:

work on hills - - get cadence and pace up on hills
Transition 2
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

excellent bike finish - - didn't see the finish coming - - had to stop quickly to dismount - -ran to rack - - -excellent transition - - lace locks are faster - -but too tight - - okay to take extra 30 seconds.
Run
  • 31m 50s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

better transition from bike to run - - still need to work on this - - -early uphill was tough - - had to walk up some of the hills - - - some walk/run - - - great that family cheered me on - - helped me push through and run instead of walk!
What would you do differently?:

run more - - - and run faster!
Post race
Warm down:

bottle of water - - short walk - - talk to family

What limited your ability to perform faster:

slow swimmers in my way on laps, need work on running distance and speed -

Event comments:

Good race - -fun to have family cheering me on - - and competing with my brother
