Pre-race routine:

Got up early. Breakfast of cereal, fruit and juice.
Event warmup:

Stretched. Tried to run but it was too crowded in the start area. My left quad had been tight for about a week so I wanted to get it warmed up. Also my right foot was bothering me the day before so I wanted to see if it was OK. I jogged up to the wave 1 start and back but it was really too crowded. Mostly I just paced.
Run

  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

My right foot started bothering me around mile 8 or 9. By 10 I was pretty sure I could finish but my foot was really starting to complain.
What would you do differently?:

Train differently. I feel my training was adequate to complete the run because that's basically all I was training for. I picked a goal split the night before and never did any training to run that pace. I should start training for a particular goal.

I had three "Gu"s on the course. One at 45 minutes in, second around 1:20 - 1:30 and the last around mile 12. Still experimenting with these things. Probably didn't need the last one.
Post race
Warm down:

Changed into sandals and stretched a little.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training (see "what would you do differently")

Event comments:

Everything was well organized and run except for the "reunion" area. There was only one exit from the runners finish area. People crowded around the outside of the exit and made very difficult to get out. Possibly have multiple exit points would help eliminate the congestion.
