Run
Comments: Kept to the plan pretty well. First 10K avg 9:40's - second half 9:20's. Walked water stations and gu'd at 5.5 and 9.5 as planned. Thought of the BT "negative split this bitch" line a number of times. Started to waver around mile 11 - front hip/groin tightening up pretty bad. First time > 10 so I was in new territory and was really getting bored with the whole thing. 9:29 avg was at the top end of my expectations so I am very happy with result. What would you do differently?: Not much - I did the Hal Hidgon 12 novice week plan and feel like I got my money's worth out of the race. Started with no base so I never did any speedwork/tempo runs and knew being fast was out of the question. I got to the start line without injury which made the journey a success in and of itself. Post race
Warm down: Neigbor had done the 5 miler and was waiting - grabbed some quick food and walk to the car and left. What limited your ability to perform faster: Starting base, limited experience with distance running (1 10K 14 years prior) Event comments: Didn't hang around to judge post race but all the volunteers where great. up at 3:45, coffee, english muffin w/pb and an egg. Bathroom issues - went heavy on the carbs for the previous two days and it affected me for sure. All was good by race time but a number of anxious moments.
Did a little streching and some small talk.
