Swim
Comments: I knew the swim would be the hardest partfor me. The water was really cold, and made me wish for a wetsuit. The salt water really DOES make you more Buoyant though...Some of the guys with wet-suit were practically able to sit in the water while we waited - pretty cool - next year... I started towards the back and on the outside because I don't have a lot of confidence in my swim, and didn't want to be in the way. The waves were nice so there too many of us at once, but still had to get used to people touching my feet and bumping into folks a bit. Not like the Y! What would you do differently?: Practice swim technique - more time in the pool (and lake) Be a little more aggressive and get closer to the front when stroke gets stronger. Transition 1
Comments: T1 was weak. Caught up in a line a people getting out and up the ramp. Broke into a jog into T1 and to my bike at the very back. Struggled into my shoes OK, but had to walk out to the mounting area due to non-tri bike shoes. What would you do differently?: the only way to improve is by having tri shoes, or figure out a way into my current shoes on the fly. Bike
Comments: Satisfied with the bike. As advertised, flat and fast! For me, on my 25 year old road bike to avg. 24.4 mph, it's got to be fast! Actually lost my chain at one point trying to use the big ring - thought I had fixed that. Fortunately, I was able to grab it again without stopping. Slowed me down a bit but no biggie... What would you do differently?: Better equipment. Otherwise, pleased with effort and pacing. Was tired, but not exhausted. Worked it, but didn't kill myself... Transition 2
Comments: Again, tough time with equipment. Because I can't run to save my life with the shoes on, I got off the bike, undid my shoes - took them off and then ran into the WTC carrying my shoes. What would you do differently?: Should have at least un-velcroed my shoes coming into T2 to make it smoother. Otherwise, better equipment and practice... Run
Comments: Pleased with my pace and gave it pretty much all I had. What would you do differently?: More speedwork Post race
Warm down: walked around and jogged to the car. What limited your ability to perform faster: Equipment - Training - Transition practice... Event comments: Being my first triathlon- it kind of defaulted to being the best! But I was very impressed and pleased with the event. Everyone was friendly, and helpful, and supportive. From the registration, to the people stationed at the worst potholes yelling out warnings.. everyone was really great. Only frustration was, because of the design, upon finishing, we were herded back into the WTC like cattle. Took me 1/2 hour to find Christina because she had left to try and find me because I had taken so long to get back around...Just the layout of the venue, and I don't think there's much that could be done about it. Early AM to get to Boston My 5:45 ish...Got going a little late but got there by six. Fortunately, no problem. No waiting really. Got right into line and got my packet in no time.
Some quick jogs and stretches in the back of the WTC.
