Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3:45. Ate oatmeal.
Stopped at Quick Trip and got a medium coffe.
Ate a cliff bar and sipped on carbo powder drink. Drank about 7/8 of it.
Event warmup:

3/4 mile slow jog
300 yard easy swim with about 15 yd sprint in middle.
Swim
  • 06m 54s
  • 528 yards
  • 01m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

Tried to stay long and smooth.
Still think I may have gone a little harder than I have to.
What would you do differently?:

Relax coming out of water to get my thoughts for T1.
Transition 1
  • 02m 1s
Comments:

Need to get shoes that I can pre-clip.
I know I am losing 30-40 seconds by having to put on my shoes in T1 and then running with bike, then stopping to mount my bike.
What would you do differently?:

1. Relax going into transition. I am trying to rush too much and it is slowing me down.
2. Buy shoes that I can slip into while clipped on bike. (For next season)
Bike
  • 37m 17s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 21.08 mile/hr
Comments:

Still had a part in middle of race that I zoned a bit.
Need to be able to focus the entire race.
What would you do differently?:

Train more to maintain focus
Transition 2
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

Pretty good T2.

What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 22m 48s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

I am letting my heart rate get too high and it is limiting my ability to hold the pace I want to go. Data shows it drifting up as I go.
Also thought it was 3.3 mile (no idea why). Could have picked pace up .3 miles earlier. Had way too much of a kick. Data shows that I was going sub 5 minute miles for last .1 mile
What would you do differently?:

Know the distance.
Relax more in early part of run to keep heart rate down.
Post race
Warm down:

You are supposed to warm down?
Ate pizza, drank coffee andl talked to other athletes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Time to train harder

Event comments:

Considering this was not may A race and that I really was not concerned about how I did, I am very happy. Qualified for age group nationals. WOW.
