Swim
Comments: Holy Cow Hard!!! That's about all I can really say. Against the current for most of it and about 10 minutes slower than my slowest ever. What would you do differently?: Nothing other than find a way to reverse the current. Transition 1
Comments: Tired from the swim and a little frustrated, so I was moving slow, but got in and out as quickly as possible. What would you do differently?: Not really sure. Bike
Comments: Kind of ridiculous that I couldn't even push 200 watts! First half of the first lap, my legs were very tired and I have no idea why. They just would NOT push as evidenced by the power numbers. After that, I just decided I was going to enjoy the rest of the ride and I did. It was actually a fun course and I still managed to hold 21ish. What would you do differently?: Find my cycling legs and get them to push. I could see I wasn't pushing hard enough when I looked at the bike computer, but couldn't seem to do anything about it. I guess my legs were tired from the swim? Transition 2
Comments: Just normal. Nothing special, nothing terrible. What would you do differently?: Nothing except move faster. Run
Comments: Saw Jonathan coming out of T2 and told him to puke and get it over with and come with me. Kind of glad I did because he caught me on the second hill and told me we were going together. It was good motivation, I unfortunately, just couldn't keep up. Clearly dehydrated by the time I started the run and couldn't take in enough water w/o just stopping and drinking a whole cooler full of water. To make it worse, they ran out of water at the stop @ mile 4. Ouch! I think the long swim in the warm water started the path to dehydration and I just never got it back. I can tell when I am dehydrated as my pace slows dramatically (check), my HR goes up (check), and I can't seem to get my breathing under control, even on flats (check). What would you do differently?: Recognize earlier that I was getting dehydrated. Post race
Warm down: Walk around. Find shade and water. Find the girls and the guys. Grabbed my cool USAT Nationals pint glasses (which will be used quite often). Stretch. Tried to start the long path to rehydration. What limited your ability to perform faster: Probably being dehydrated. At least that's what it felt like. The only thing I can think is that it wasn't humid enough. Yeah, that's right; not humid enough. I don't do well with lower humidity races unless it is cold. Not sure why. I had been hydrating well all week before, so I didn't start out the race low, but really feel like my energy was being sapped as the race went on. Oh yeah, I am honestly much too sore considering this was an Oly so that's my story and I'm sticking to it. :) Event comments: Biggest issue was actually finding packet pickup. It was hidden somewhere on the University of Alabama campus :) Being a graduate of UGA, I wanted to spend as little time on the campus as possible, so trying to find it with no signs was slowly making my time on campus creep upwards. Finally found the building with Kevin's guidance and then was good from there forward. Fun race. Good course (except the river swim). Like the stuff I got for "free". Pint glasses, cool backpack, t-shirt, etc. Just wish they hadn't run out of mediums. I'm not exactly an XXL, which they had plenty of. Last updated: 2009-08-01 12:00 AM

Woke up. Ate normal PB&J waffle. Rode to the race with Jonathan and Kevin to setup transition.
Not much other than a little swim. Current was strong, so not a whole lot to be able to warmup. Similar to Chattanooga. Get there early, wait around until your wave is called.
