Swim
Comments: I tried to make sure I tempered the adrenaline a little. Didn't dive in - calmly walked in and started swimming. Kept getting kicked and hit in the head...very hard to get into a steady pace. This was the first time I swam outside of a pool. That all by itself didn't make too much difference. What would you do differently?: Not sure - maybe stick to the inside or outside more to avoid the masses. As I remember - I started toward the back and the middle of the wave. I was disappointed that I never got into a good stroke/rhythm Transition 1
Comments: By this time, it was raining pretty steadily. I had a towel to dry off my feet at T1 to help get into socks easier - but that didn't help! Everything was wet/damp. That slowed things up. Found my bike OK What would you do differently?: Maybe bring a plastic bag to stash my socks and cycling shoes. Bike
Comments: Bike felt great despite the deluge of rain. I kept the pace light ~18mph for the first .5 mi to 1 mi and then turned up the gas. Waited until I had the wind at my back and then turned the pace up to 21 to 22 mph. Kept a steady pace of around 20 mph for the whole thing. Drank about 1/2 my bottle What would you do differently?: Not much - wish it didn't rain as much. Transition 2
Comments: Good and quick transition. I loosened my shoes as I was coming into the transition area and opened them, so I was running my shoes already opened. I don't know how people can do that with road shoes. Put the garmin from my bike into my gel pocket and used the spilt time to get separate data for the run. What would you do differently?: Not much Run
Comments: Overall - not bad. The trail part of the run was a mud field given the rain...so that was a mess. Did not have anything to drink along the way...but that was fine. There were volunteers handing out water - but I didn't really need any. Very hard w/o a pace meter to judge how fast/slow I was going. I definitely found a pace around 1 mile in and stuck with that. What would you do differently?: It went about as good as it was going to go for me Post race
Warm down: Not much! I was just glad to be done and finish! What limited your ability to perform faster: The weather - definitely. Getting into a good swimming rhythm. I could have done better on the swim. I would rank my performance as Bike: 9/10...Run: 8/10...Swim: 5/10. I thought I would have done and felt much worse on the run. Event comments: For my first triathlon - I think everything went great. I know I need to work on my run some more...a 10 min/mile is not great. Last updated: 2009-08-03 12:00 AM

Got up around 5AM. Slept very well even though it was my first triathlon. Drank like a fish in the days before. That morning had some coffee and half a bagel with peanut butter. Drank about 500 ml up to about 20 min before the race
Nothing really...got in the water a little bit before hand to practice a few strokes
