Swim
Comments: good swim, went out tooo hard, drafted well. Wetsuit is too big, i need a smaller size, it was balooning a bit. Courtesy of weight loss and toning. About 800-900 meters out, toe started to cramp, then calves, had to try to stretch while swimming, not much contact water was warm, the stairs up sucked and were very congested. What would you do differently?: i dunno??? i need to figure out why i cramped, it has not happened before and i have swam longer. Transition 1
Comments: cramps cramps and more cramps...i mailed in the Transitions trying to get uncramped. As i de-racked my bike my rear wheel clipped the a-frame of the race, the whole rack fell.....arrrgghhh, i dropped my bike to fix rack, a photog said just go i will fix it. picked up bike forgetting i had a new aero bottle...which is now empty......farg!!!! What would you do differently?: alot...like not destroy the rack and drop bike Bike
Comments: After the rack debacle, i walked out of transition and got on bike, immediate cramps, legs had no go in them, could not stand to climb or accelerate it was not there and would cramp. figured i would keep the cadence up and spin to get some speed. All in all it was a good ride, not my "a" ride but i got the job done. Went to pull my Gu off the tape and my sunglasses went flying into the road...bye bye rudy's. Passed lots of peeps, got passed by one person, i think he finished 2nd Clyde. One rider down and was in serious pain wrapped in a thermo blanket and he was screaming and i could see blood on his head and face...wake up call!! Great flying dismount to the crowds delight...calves cramp again in T2...this run is gonna suck What would you do differently?: figure out the cramping and lack of leg strength. Transition 2
Comments: i actually sat down to put shoes on. i could almost not stand back up. gave redsoxchick a big hug before run, waved to wife and headed out for more pain What would you do differently?: see above Run
Comments: well, time to HTFU, i walked the first 6 minutes, my wife said i was muttering and swearing as i left the park, the first mile was hell, i could not loosen up my calves, i was talking and cheering everyone who passed just tryingto keep my mind off the pain. after the calves relaxed a bit, the hammy's started to cramp, more walking, high fiving volunteers and chit chatting with all the people going by. Walked with one guy for a bit, legs started to feel better, picked it up the the front quads started to act up. met a guy chris and we rac a bit together and talked about all the pace bootay going by. he left me in the dust and by mile 4 i actually settled in to a nice pace. i think i ran the last 2 miles sun 9. Got to the finish and unlike NY where i felt pizzed and dejected, i heard all the people yelling and crossed the mat with my arms up and a big smile. even though the time was slower than a much tougher NYC course, my performance under much worse body condition was much better. And the MASS MAFIA were there yelling and cheering!!! What would you do differently?: not much, it was total HTFU the whole way Post race
Warm down: Said hi to all my peeps, kissed my wife, jumped into a tub of ice water....oooooo that was nnnnooiiicccee. got food and hung around What limited your ability to perform faster: cramps, maybe a little over training issue?? Event comments: This race is the BOMB!!!!! if you live in the northeast it should be a must do!!! Sun Multisport put on a grade A show!!!! Kudos to the race director and his crew!!! Drove up Saturday in pouring rain. Got race packet and hung with two cool dudes from Landry Cycles. Met Joe and DK, then Socks, went to dinner with the Mass Mafia at Fireside, then back to hotel and met my wife.
Walked around a lot..hit porta-johns a few times, chit chatted with friends old and new, got ready to swim
