Swim
  • 20m 25s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

My swim was awful. I ran out of gas early, ended up side stroking for awhile, started free-styling again, got off course, corrected, side stroked, finally made it.
What would you do differently?:

Duathalons, maybe? Seriously, this needs to be dealt with.
Transition 1
  • 03m 26s
Comments:

This is actually pretty good for me, I have to work on not farting around and streamline this a bit.
What would you do differently?:

Will focus on shaving time off of this in the future.
Bike
  • 37m 31s
  • 11 miles
  • 17.59 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a blast. Unlike my other race, my starting wave was earlier (as opposed to last) so there was quite a few people on the road this time. Felt like a race. I may be turning into a bike guy.
What would you do differently?:

I'd like to come into next season with a better understanding of riding and racing technique.
Transition 2

Comments:

This time is in the run.
Run
  • 28m 13s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Weird that the T2 time is built in, I thought I crossed mats coming in and going out of the transition area. Oh well, but I was hoping for official verification that I did the run in 25:14, which is what my watch said. I was really happy with the time, especially since I had pretty bad abdominal cramping the first 1.5 miles or so. I assuming the cramps where from drinking a bit too much in T2.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on getting the drinking right off the bike into the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Found Mary & Ian, packed up, walked around a bit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Mathematically speaking, this was a great improvement over my first race in July. But (and I'm sure you know how it is), my competitive streak is such that I really got down on myself about the swim. Sitting here now though, I am pretty pleased at the overall improvement. Heck, even my swim time was better, just a little ugly.

Event comments:

One little comment, how about some porta-potties in the transition area for athletes only? They where all outside the area. There was a long line of both racers and spectators, and as a result it was a bit of a rush to the start area for some of the racers.

Course: 2 loops through lower Downtown Long Beach and around the Queen Mary berth/pier area. A bridge (which we crossed back and forth twice) provided the only real hills, but you ride either slightly uphill or slightly downhill for the balance. Wide, scenic, enough turns and road changes to make it pretty cool. I enjoyed it.
