Swim
Comments: Started in back of wave, ended up passing many swimmers. What would you do differently?: Overall happy with the swim. As I get more confident with the swim I;ll go in with the wave instead of holding back. Transition 1
Comments: This is where not being prepared for the rain messed me up. Need to practice the sequencing of then I put on what piece of equipment. Had some trouble getting the wet suit off but overall did it better than my last tri. What would you do differently?: Learn to mount bike with shoes already on the bike for races like this with a long transition run. Need to do better with the wet suit, but that will come with experience. Overall just have a better and faster sequencing for this transition. Bike
Comments: Overall happy with the bike. Could not see the odometer due to the rain but drank and had my gel at the proper moments. Getting passed by nicer tri-bikes makes me think of dumping $3 to $4 grand on a new one. What would you do differently?: I practiced getting out of my bike shoes on the bike all of the time, but did not do it at this tri. Should have since my socks were soaked anyway, so running in the parking lot with them would not have made them wetter. Transition 2
Comments: Since I was in the second to last wave, and their was also a duathlon, my assigned bike rack was full of bikes that were obviously not neatly placed. So I have to think about where to put the bike and then move some around to fit mine on the rack. This T time was better than last tri as I added bungie laces to my shoes, so I did not have to tie them. What would you do differently?: Take this experience and prepare better for a bike drop off strategy if I am in a later wave since the rack will be full when I get into transition. Take feet out of shoes on bike. Run
Comments: Wet socks, wet shoes that were not covered in T2 since I was not prepared for the rain. Muddy trail for some sections but not as bad as it could have been. What would you do differently?: Prepare for rain with a plastic bag for running shoes and extra socks to put on in transition. Also brought my Garmin but forgot to turn it on during T1 so it would have the sattelite captured by the time I got to T2. So I did not use it. Need to make sure I use this since the course was not marked for distance. Plus I like knowing my pace. Post race
Warm down: none. What limited your ability to perform faster: Rain, poor Transition times. Event comments: Great event for a beginner. Swim is in the small lake the town uses as its swimming venue, so it's not a murky-no swim lake with no visibility (like Lake Watchung). Water was warm, did not need a wetsuit for warmth, and visibility is about ten feet or so, so you can see the feet of those you are swimming up too. Has real bathrooms and not porta-potties. Bike and run are flat. Too bad about the rain. Only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that there was no event photographer, so if this is you first one, you have no pictures of you on the course unless someone is there to take your picture. Good t-shirt that clearly shows you did a tri. Last updated: 2009-08-04 12:00 AM
