Swim
Comments: was worried about wicked heartburn that surfaced running around to set up transition/greet family...swim felt much easier than in charlottesville...smoother, more of a steady stroke. came out of the water breathing hard but not fatigued. What would you do differently?: pack tums. and not schedule a concert 3 hours away for the night before. Transition 1
Comments: was a very long run with the bike until the mount...clipped in easily but was tired from run and didn't pound the start of bike. concentrated on working gears--the part i'm learning. What would you do differently?: more bike workouts w/trainer at home--otherwise transition went well. Bike
Comments: as a non-biker, i was concentrating on improving my mph and overall comfortablilty on this portion of the race. felt smoother and improved, but clearly not stellar. my ranking is not exactly something i'm proud of. What would you do differently?: just keep working and learning. Transition 2
Comments: fumbled racking a tad--nothing big. also temporarily forgot where the run start was, lost a few seconds getting bearings. looooooong run from transition to timing mat for the run--my watch was 40 sec above what my run time ended up being officially. What would you do differently?: little. Run
Comments: felt slow on the run...course was boring...passed a bunch of people who seemed near the point of collapse. just kept picking them off--was unsure of pace and unstimulated by the course (much more of a woods/trail runner) and didn't pick up until last mile. experienced some hip flexor pain and right achille's cramping. What would you do differently?: make the first mile faster, hang on at the same pace for mi 2, then pound it in. i raced hard the last 1.5 miles but was shaking out from the bike for the beginning. (also, work harder on bike training to be less fatigued to shake out for less time...) Post race
Warm down: yell that i'm from nj when the announcer says va. hug father and transfer sweat. repeat with mother. pet dogs. take unflattering picture in front of "official banner". get shin massage from cute boy. finagle multiple meatballs from free tent for family. painfully bend down to grab coke from kiddie pool. spend 40 min getting out of the parking lot, express obscenities at stupid people, shower and go to brothers for spinach ravioli. What limited your ability to perform faster: inexperience on the bike and fat people on the run course taking up all the space. Event comments: it felt like jersey. welcoming, with great food...and a bit of flair/attitude. felt like home. Last updated: 2009-08-05 12:00 AM
