Swim
Comments: LATE LATE LATE LATE LATE LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGH. I got warmed up and then had to stand around for the better part of 30 minutes waiting for the event to start. They finally got going 25 minutes late, and then with the time trial start it was another 15 minutes before I got in the water. Got going okay, but still had problems with breathing every fourth stroke. Settled on every third and got a pretty good rhythm going. What would you do differently?: I waded out about 30 yds before starting to swim. Next time I would start swimming earlier so I could get the breathing under control sooner. Transition 1
Comments: Long run from the water to transition area. Didn't try the shoes on the bike, but overall a pretty good transition. What would you do differently?: I'm going to learn how to do the running jump on the bike one of these days. Bike
Comments: Oh, this hurt. I jumped on my bike and immeadiately knew something was wrong. I heard a high pitched scraping sound coming from my back tire. Seems the crappy skewer that I use with my trainer doesn't hold the wheel in place very well on the road. So my tire was rubbing against them frame for the entire ride. I got passed like I was standing still even though I was hammering it pretty hard. I met my goal of average 18 mph. I'm just pissed that I lost at least 5 minutes to a preventable mechanical problem. What would you do differently?: Swap out my skewer before the race. Don't be an idiot. Transition 2
Comments: Running with bike - HA! The back tire had locked up completely, so I had to pick the damn thing up and carry it through transition. Not the approved technique, and hopefully something I won't have to do again. It seriously slowed my down. Pretty good getting into my running shoes and getting going. What would you do differently?: Nothing, I was pleased Run
Comments: My goal was a sub 25 minute 5K, so I'm pretty pleased with this. I figured if I could average 8.5 minute miles, I would be doing well and here I beat even that. I passed a bunch of folks that had passed me on the run, so that was another good thing. What would you do differently?: Nothing, this is my triathlon 5K PR. Post race
Warm down: Jumped in lake and then stretched What limited your ability to perform faster: Bike mechanical issue. Event comments: Team Magic puts on a good show, but things were really late to start. Other than that, though, it was a class act and I will definitely do their races in the future. I'm a big fan, they just got off to a late start. Last updated: 2009-08-05 12:00 AM

Got up, showered, ate a granola bar and an orange, and got to the race site.
Stood in line for the bathroom for about 20 mins, then got into the lake and swam for about 8 minutes.
