Overall Rank = 919/1737
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 29/87
Pre-race routine:

Ate cereal for breakfast, tried to meditate to ease my nerves
Swim
  • 11h 28m
  • 437 yards
  • 2h 37m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was panicking during the swim because it was my first open water swim... I got off to a decent start, but then got kicked by some people and that threw me off. I started hyperventilating and so that made things worse... I finally got myself together at the half way mark, but had to back stroke a lot of it.
What would you do differently?:

I need to do a lot more open water swims to be comfortable.
Transition 1
  • 03m 7s
Comments:

The distance between the swim exit and transition area was pretty far... I actually lost my cap and goggles because I think I absentmindedly threw them off while I was running into transition...
Bike
  • 46h 34m
  • 13.67 miles
  • 0.29 mile/hr
Comments:

The wind was pretty strong for me. I'm a small person, so wind bothers me a lot, because I don't weigh that much... But I think I did okay. :)
What would you do differently?:

I should have pushed more on the bike. I could have gone faster.
Transition 2
  • 02m 18s
Comments:

One foot got stuck while I was trying to get my shoe off so I had to stop and then slip it off... I wasted a lot of time doing this.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting in and out of shoes more
Run
  • 29h 58m
  • 3.1 miles
  • 9h 40m  min/mile
Comments:

It was hot on certain portions so I got thirsty really quickly...
What would you do differently?:

I should have grabbed both Gatorade and water at each aid station.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking around. Couldn't eat much though...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

It was my first race, so I didn't know how to ration my energy. I should have gone harder on the bike. But I felt very comfortable throughout the race.

Event comments:

This was a great first race, but they ran out of drinks... so if you didn't finish fast enough, you kind of got screwed. When I finished, there were plenty of drinks left, but as I went to grab another water a half hour later, they were all gone! I also had to wait a long time to get my bike out.
