Swim
Comments: Horrible, HORRIBLE swim. Hit the first bouy and panicked. Started hyperventalating and even with breat and side stroking the remainder of the swim, never did get breathing under control (until I exited). What would you do differently?: practice, practice, practice Transition 1
Comments: Transitions were the highlight of my day! I killed them! Was 4th overall in T1!!!! Goggles and cap off, shoes (running shoes) sunglasses and helmet on... run away to mount line. I kept it basic. (although I did manage one of those flying leaps into the saddle) What would you do differently?: Pass people between the water and transition? Can you do that? Didn't know if it was allowed or frowned upon, but there was about a 300 yard dash up to transition, and I just coasted in behind the guy who beat me out of the water. Bike
Comments: I was riding a 1986 Schwinn LeTour... I wasn't going to be setting any speed records. Left hammy/butt felt a bit pulled, but pushed on anyway. Below average... but not disappointing. What would you do differently?: More practice on bike... consider renting/borrowing something a little more 'current', maybe with an aluminum frame, or index shifting. Transition 2
Comments: Glided to dismount line with feet out of cages, and both legs on left side of bike and hopped off the bike flying! Passed 3 people in the 20 yards between dismount line and transition area. KILLED the transition again - 3rd overall!!! What would you do differently?: Absolutely nothing Run
Comments: felt good... felt strong... but should have been faster. Actually would have preferred a longer run What would you do differently?: pushed harder. Had a little too much left in the tank after finishing Post race
Warm down: Looked for friends to cheer them on What limited your ability to perform faster: inexperience, equipment, and lack of swim & bike training Event comments: Hard to be critical since it was my first tri... but comparing to the many 5K's I've done: They needed more help checking people in. 15 minutes before the transition area closing down (and a half hour until the first wave) there was still a line of 30+ people waiting to get checked in, marked up, and get their chips (plus set up transition and everything). Good race for a first time though... everyone was supportive and friendly. Last updated: 2009-08-09 12:00 AM

Wake up way too early to stress and worry about it. It was my first triathlon...
Sipped water and ate a Hammer gel pre-race
Adjust and readjust my transition area about 5-6 times. Lookout for my friends who we're also doing this as their first, and were even more green than I am (if that's possible)
