Age Group = men 19-29
Age Group Rank = 12/23
Pre-race routine:

i put baby powder in my socks and laid out everything i needed. drove the bike course
Event warmup:

did some stretches and tested the water. walking/biking my bag to the transition was a good warmup too
Swim
  • 09m 19s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

i underestimated my swimming and over estimated everyone elses. ive been swimming for about 3 weeks so i figured id be slow...nope. i passed my heat as well as 1/2 of the heat in front of me. i did freestyle for the 1st 1/3 to get out in front, then did breast stroke the rest of the way
What would you do differently?:

i need to build up my breathing, and my freestyle as well
Transition 1
  • 02m 32s
Comments:

i didnt have to change, i wore my tri suit the whole race. i was surprised how few people were in the transition, i thought it was gonna be packed. washed my feet and stretched my quads, then took off
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 16m 14s
  • 5.7 miles
  • 21.07 mile/hr
Comments:

biking is my strongest sport, so i pushed hard to make up time i was sure to lose in the run. i passed about 100 people on the ride, most moved right away. i barely drank anything, but it didnt effect me on such a short ride
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

another smooth transition. i remembered everything i needed and was off
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 27m 15s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

i felt slow in the run, but the time was only 3 minutes slower then when i do 5k races, so i guess i did ok. i took it easy til i doubled back by the lake, then put the power on up the hill and to the finish
What would you do differently?:

i should have driven the run course, but didnt think it was a big deal at the time
Post race
Warm down:

i ate 6 bran mini-muffins

What limited your ability to perform faster:

ive only been swimming recently for 3 weeks, and havent done much running either

Event comments:

this was my 1st tri and had a blast. i hope to do soem more this summer!

the race was great. really no problems other then a 10 minute delay at the start. very organized, great location (other then the parking not being at the lake), & great timing
