Total Time = 1h 07m 25s
Overall Rank = 95/176
Age Group = 40-49
Age Group Rank = 24/37
Pre-race routine:

Had pasta dinner at the Harrington's house and got to sleep shortly after 10pm at the Sheahan's house. Bagel with peanut butter, coffee and a banana for breakfast
Event warmup:

light jogging and stretching.
Swim
  • 08m 12s
  • 550 yards
  • 01m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt pretty good on the swim. The water felt great. Warm and clean. Nice sandy beach. Pressed hard right til the end. Heart rate was going pretty good coming out of the water.
What would you do differently?:

Don't start too far outside if the first leg is short. I lost about 10-15yds because of this.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

The bike rack had fallen down, so my goggles, glasses and stuff was scattered on the ground. No problem getting sand off the feet with a simple rub of from a towel.
Bike
  • 34m 42s
  • 9 miles
  • 15.56 mile/hr
Comments:

Handlebars were crooked because of the damn bike rack collapsing. Other than that, my biking needs work. Averaging under 16mph is not where I want to be. Just seem to be losing too much speed on the uphills.
What would you do differently?:

tighten bolts to avoid issue with stuff getting out of alignment.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

The bike racks were collapsed with all bikes on the ground. Other than that, a pretty quick transition.
Run
  • 24m 32s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt OK on the run, but was generally a slow pace.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just have to continue to train hard on the bike and running

Event comments:

Great beach setting with cool country rodes for the bike and run. The organizers really need to figure out how to stabilizing the bike racks. They collapsed twice during the race, scattering equipment and in some cases causing damage to bikes. Other than that it was a fun race that I'll plan on doing again in 2010.
