Swim
Comments: OK, it was my first open water swim. I had really been looking forward to using my Vendetta wetsuit; in training it was awesome! However, the water was just under 26 Celsius, which meant it was a non-wetsuit swim. PANIC! Well ... just do it. Panicked the first 100 m or so until I was clear of the weeds. Decided it was going to be an AWFUL long 1500 m if all I could do was breast stroke, sidestroke or backstroke ... JUST PUT YOUR FACE IN THE WATER AND SWIM. It was good after that. But was it longer than 1500??? I can do 1500 in 34 in the pool...... What would you do differently?: Calm down sooner. Do more open water non-wetsuit swims in training. I was happy with my swim; I didn't get drownded. Transition 1
Comments: OK, rookie error: forgot to undo my cycling shoes BEFORE I swam. Somehow I couldn't quite get them undone and it took me forever in transition. Mind you, I suck at transition. I could have a picnic in the time it takes me .... What would you do differently?: Remember to pull on my bike shorts over my tri suit. I sure missed them around the 25th km. Bike
Comments: Actually the bike was my best segment -- raced #400 the whole way; we kept trading the lead but I'd catch him on the uphills. I loved the bike ride. What would you do differently?: Remember my )(*^&*))(* bike shorts in T1. Not go on vacation three weeks before the race, and not have access to a bike.... Transition 2
Comments: Again, slow transition. I have to switch my orthotics from my cycling shoes to runners. This slows me down. Other things were OK but I need to be faster. What would you do differently?: Cough up another $400 for a 2nd set of orthotics. Just be faster. Eat more on the bike; I think it would have made a difference in the run. Run
Comments: Whose legs were those? They sure didn't feel like mine .... kicked in about 3 km into it. I walked a bit and wished I'd been faster. But then again, I used to run the lake in 1:06 when all I was doing was running ... so not too shabby for an old girl. What would you do differently?: Practice going from bike to run. Drink less. I felt ill. I was thirsty but water didn't help ... needed more electrolytes. Post race
Warm down: Water, water, water and fruit. Lots of fruit. Didn't really feel like pancakes. Went home and had a birthday party with Lemon Drop Cupcakes from the Pink Sugar Cupcakery. HIGHLY recommend this .... What limited your ability to perform faster: Transitions were lousy; need more practice at that and at the switch from bike to running. Event comments: Terrific race. Will do this again next year, and have already recruited 3 others ... Last updated: 2009-08-09 12:00 AM

Wake up, coffee, couple-a scrambled eggs. Found some clowns to get my picture taken with. They gave me a red clown nose: it was my birthday.
Standing in line for the potty. They need more potties next year.
