Event warmup:

relax, no real warm up
Swim
  • 12m 46s
  • 485 meters
  • 02m 38s / 100 meters
Comments:

Happy with swim results. significant improvement over prior race. free to breat ratio was much higher, only two small back stroke breaks. last 100 was good effort.
What would you do differently?:

push through the pain a little more and less breast stroke. it seems to take more energy than free. makes my legs more tired.
Transition 1
  • 02m 59s
Comments:

30yr run with bike. first race in bike shoes. took time in T1. ate shot bloc, drank water, caught breath.
What would you do differently?:

take less time catching breath and actually think about not taking time.
Bike
  • 46m 27s
  • 14 miles
  • 18.08 mile/hr
Comments:

bike fit was biggest problem. new bike and only 2nd time on bike for more than 10miles. saddle needs adjusting...hands and shoulders got tingly. spent a quarter of the time in aero bars. butt was killing me starting at the half way mark.
What would you do differently?:

spend more time in aero bars. more comfortable that way. didn't prepare enough pre-race. had too much time off for back injury.

need more saddle time!!
Transition 2
  • 01m 42s
Comments:

again, took time ensuring i was ready for run, drank water, wiped off face and head with towel.
What would you do differently?:

push it more. don't need to take as much time in t2, get better at taking off bike shoes. just start running, you can take it slow at the start to catch a breather, keep making forward progress at least.
Run
  • 35m 16s
  • 3.28 miles
  • 10m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

run sucked. legs were the ball and chain. respitory was ok, but legs were getting to tired. multiple walk breaks. took water at every station (3) and took time to drink it. too much thinking!! slight right calf pain last mile.

finished last 100yrds full out though!
What would you do differently?:

push through the pain a little more. be more prepared for leg fatigue. not enough run training.

run more!
Post race
Warm down:

straight to the shade to sit and hydrate

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of training. 3+ weeks off for vacation and injury really hurt me.

Event comments:

First time this race was held. Very well done and will do it again every year if i can.
