Overall Rank = 4/20
Age Group = TM40+C
Age Group Rank = 1/6
Pre-race routine:

Set up transition area; tried to find coffee for my wife.
Event warmup:

Biked 12mins; Ran 5 mins and stretched. Put the wetsuit on and swam for about 5mins with a few sprints.
Swim
  • 14m 43s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 58s / 100 meters
Comments:

I seemed to have difficulty navigating which is strange since it was the easiest swim of the three races this summer. I think that because the first buoy was a considerable distance out there was more difficulty navigating.
What would you do differently?:

Raise my head for a sighting at a more frequent pace.
Transition 1
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

Shoes fell out of the clips when I jumped on the bike. When I did my warm up I placed the shoes in the clips with my hands. Big mistake. Next time will leave the shoes on the bike as I finish my warm up.

That said it was a far better T1 than I have had before.
What would you do differently?:

See above
Bike
  • 60m 53s
  • 30 kms
  • 29.56 km/hr
Comments:

I seemed slow throughout the race; I couldn't seem to catch a good rhythm on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Going into the transition area I lost one of my shoes again off the bike. Had to quickly grab it from an official; pain in the ass factor high, but I didn't lose much time.

Still have figured out the best way to put socks on: sitting on the grass or standing up.

This time I kept my helmet on until I was ready to start running. There should be no penalties this race!!!

Timing chip didn't pick up my second transition time. I've estimated my T2 time and I have then calculated my run time.

What would you do differently?:

Be more careful pulling my feet out of the shoes and ensuring that they are still clipped in.
Run
  • 38m 29s
  • 7.5 kms
  • 05m 08s  min/km
Comments:

Best run of the summer; I came off the bike feeling good. No stomach cramps and my legs were loose (no brick feeling). Powered through the run and felt great. At no time did I feel like the runs on the other two races.

I was able to pass people and had minimal people pass me.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate a hotdog; damn good.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Still need work on the transitions and I'm still carrying too large of a Buddha.

Event comments:

It was great to win my age group for the clydes; the right way to end the season.
