Swim
Comments: I stayed ahead of the rest of my women's age group and passed someone but was passed by a guy seeded one or two spots behind me. What would you do differently?: Pace myself better next time. Transition 1
Comments: Hauled ass to T1. Pool swim so no wetsuit. Wet feet gave me difficulty slipping into my running shoes (elastic laces, no bike shoes), but other than that T1 went smoothly. I had 2 Shot Bloks set out so I ate one on my way out and stuck another under the edge of my suit near my shoulder. What would you do differently?: Need to figure out a way for smoother feet-into-shoes. Bike
Comments: Because I went out too hard on the swim, heart was GOING by the bike. I am not a strong biker so I struggled to keep my avg. pace above 15 mph. The course was pretty flat with very gradual inclines/declines and I actually found myself wishing for hills so that I could at least have recovery time rather than just mashing pedals for the entire 8 miles. Took one sip of water/gatorade. What would you do differently?: Need to become a stronger cyclist with a faster average mph. Transition 2
Comments: Uneventful. Racked bike, removed helmet, grabbed race belt, go. Run
Comments: If I'd been able to catch my breath better in the first mile, I would have established a nice albeit slow pace. Finally got a decent one established during the second mile and was able to sprint home. I would definitely have liked to reach a faster comfortable pace. Walked through a water stop. What would you do differently?: Just need to work on my running overall. Post race
Warm down: Light jogging, stretching, lots of water and Gatorade, some snacks, my second Shot Blok. What limited your ability to perform faster: 1. Went out too fast on the swim 2. Endurance on the bike and run During my training, I rarely, if ever, reach a point of mentally crying uncle. But during the bike and middle-end of the run in this race, I was doing it. Training more in those two disciplines should help not only physically but also mentally. Event comments: Parts of this race were well organized and parts were not. Overall, it went off pretty well. There were some sticky situations that could have been prevented/handled better but overall I thought it went off well enough. I ended up winning a 2nd place medal in my AG so that made it all worth it. Last updated: 2009-08-10 12:00 AM

Trained without a focus for a while. Trained with a focus for about a month before the race. Practiced two bricks and bunch of transitions. Tapered several days before.
Stayed at a friend's house the night before so I made a sprouted grain eng. muffin with PB and bananas for breakfast and ate it in the car. Ran out of time to get coffee and "process" it before the race started so I took an Excedrin instead. Had some water and a few sips of Gatorade on the way there and in the car. Filled and chilled bike water bottle with a water/Gatorade mixture the night before.
Jogging in the grass, stretching. Good weather so I was slightly chilly but mostly comfortable.
