Overall Rank = 235/500
Age Group = F 30-34
Age Group Rank = 10/22
Pre-race routine:

Get up at 4AM. Then the norm - bagel/coffee. Get to race site and set up transition. I was super glad we got there right when transition opened as it was open racking. Apparently it got really crowded on the racks and had to set up another one for us women. When to restroom, scoped out the course.
Event warmup:

Swam across the lake for the warm up instead of walking all the way around. Water was dirty and muddy!
Swim
  • 14m 52s
  • 482 meters
  • 03m 05s / 100 meters
Comments:

Man..boy do I stink it up on the swim. I was hoping for under 3:00/100. I was definitely not happy with my performance. Swam more freestyle than the last OW though. My nerves just get the better of me. I thought all the practice at 288 would have helped some but nothing can really simulate my nerves on race day except more races!
What would you do differently?:

Either do more OWS races or stick to the pool swims! I know I can swim better than 3:00/100.
Transition 1
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

Went smoothly. I felt I was going slower than my time.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Don't really think I can go without socks.
Bike
  • 44m 13s
  • 14 miles
  • 19.00 mile/hr
Comments:

Had some cross wind, tail wind and head wind. Basically it was blowing all sorts of directions! No trees or anything on course to block the wind. Saw a couple dead animals on the road. :( Also, got peed on by a bird. Yes, you read correctly. Never felt it but look over to my right arm and sure enough some yellow remnants. Glad I still had some water to rinse it off. ;)
What would you do differently?:

Pretty happy with my bike performance. Drank enough water so I didn't cramp on the run.
Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

Just under a minute is pretty standard for me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 30m 44s
  • 3.28 miles
  • 09m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

Run was hot and humid! Hard to get my legs moving. First mile was just under 9 and each mile got progressively slower. The opposite of what I needed to do. Dumped water on my head at every station to try and cool off.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to run in the heat/humidity.
Post race
Warm down:

Drink water and try to cool off. Chat with other BT'ers.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My inability to relax in OW!

Event comments:

I thought they really did a great job especially considering it was their first tri! Thanks for volunteering Justin and Jen!
