Swim
Comments: I've never swam a mile before - just looking out at the course was very intimidating. Lots of churn in first 200 yards - swallowed alot of water and almost had to call for assistance - did not think I would make it. Turned the first corner and got my own lane and finally got in a groove. Felt good after that and finished strong. What would you do differently?: Get some space in first part of race - don't like the crowds. Transition 1
Comments: Jogged the .2 mile up the hill and got going on bike. Glad I brought the extra sneakers to run in. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Felt better than I thought - I was nervous based on the descriptions I read. Did well on hills and passed more than passed me. What would you do differently?: More hill training. Transition 2
Comments: Took my time to get a drink and catch breath after the closing bike hills. What would you do differently?: Maybe eat something. Run
Comments: I expected to do better on this, but the course was very hard. The downhills took alot out of my quads at the beginning. I was sweating so much that my shoes got heavy and squishy - really killed me during the second half of the run. The final 2 miles was absolutely brutal - came very close to walking but kept a jog pace and did my best to sprint the final 200 yards. What would you do differently?: Drink more - I was very dehydrated. Also, figure out how to keep my shoes dry. Post race
Warm down: Water and gatorade, then a Sam Adams. Food was not to my taste - needed something salty, not pie and tomatoes. I expected more, since this was a sanctioned Oly (I had only done Sprints before). What limited your ability to perform faster: I did not consume enough calories during the event or drink enough. During the last 2 miles of the run, I was on empty for sure. Felt cramped and dehydrated throughout the day. Event comments: My first Oly - very challenging for sure. Would have enjoyed some different food and maybe another beer! Last updated: 2009-08-10 12:00 AM

Had coffee and peanut butter sandwich on the way. Arrived at 6:30 - parking lot almost full already. Drank some water and got set up.
Quick dip in the water to get acclimated - nice and warm. A little stretching - saving my strength!
