Run
Comments: Well...I now know to get up front last year. Was honest about my pace when lining up. Unfortunately, approximatelu 986 of the 1665 people in the race failed ot get the memo. Took 50 seconds to cross the line. SUPER congested for the first mile. Annoyingly so. However, kudos to the guy running by everyone thanking them for lying about their pace. Way to wear that anger buddy! First mile took about 8:30. Second was a little over seven and then settled into 7:30's until mile 4 or so when the first wave of hangover and cigar hit me. I had felt okay up until that point. However, these little pangs of super concentrated hangover started hitting more often and they hurt. A lot. It took every fiber of my being not to walk and to divorce myself from the trobbing in my head. Amazingly I didn't. Pushed on to the end where all of a sudden the crowd starts cheering seemingly for me. I'm basking in this until some 11 year old kid runs by me full sprint about fifty yards from the chute and I realize it's for him. As an ex-sprinter, my pride found this unacceptable, and I started to kick it up only to realize that I'm going to look like a complete deuche if I out kick this little kid at the finish. I let him by. Good thing, as a full sprint would have almost garaunteed my vomitting at the finish. What would you do differently?: I would reevaluate my pre-race routine. Specifically, the decisions made on the eve of the race. Also, I will start at the very front of any large non-super serious race to avoid the congestion nonsense. Post race
Warm down: Drank beer in parking lot of the Woodshed. Went down like broken glass. What limited your ability to perform faster: Heinekin light. Event comments: Great race. Will do again. Last updated: 2009-08-12 12:00 AM

The night before dinner consisted of meeting up with some old friends at The Hot Stove and on the The Irish Pub and having a cup of chowder, a stuffed quahog, and somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 beers over the night. Carbo loading at it's finest. I also decided that smoking a cigar and going to bed at 1AM were also in the plan for a good time the next day.
Warm-up started around 7AM as I was making breakfast as I was not able to shake the cobwebs for quite some time. Tried some Advil and as much liquids as I could stomach. Still couldn't warm up. Went to the beach with family and friends for the day. Lots of swimming, throwing the football, and a couple wiffle ball games, and I warmed up, but used everything in the tank in the process. Thought about calling off the race, but the wife got me to drive off the beach. Went home, showered, and started to doubt my pre-race routine.
