Swim
Comments: Waited for my entire wave to go and then started. I went slowly, swam the whole thing at my normal warm up pace and kept a wide berth. It was my first triathlon and I was most nervous about the open water swim so I didn't want to overdo it and freak out. Did great until the Masters Men wave finally caught up to me in the last 1/3 and was terrified of being swim over. In the end I got a little bumped but for the most part they swam around me. Tried drafting a bit but couldn't find anyone I wanted to stay with, they either swam to slow or too fast for me. What would you do differently?: Be bold and start a little sooner! Swim my normal pace that is a good 30 seconds/100m faster. Transition 1
Comments: Ran most of the way to my bike until I got to the bottom of the hill on transition and decided I didn't care anymore and walked up it. My bike was at the other end at the top of the hill. Was fine changing gear, no struggles there. What would you do differently?: Nothing, maybe when I do more of these I'll have the energy to book it the whole way. Bike
Comments: I guess it was a good ride, the bike is my weakness, especially on the hills. I hit 38.8 mph on one downhill. Of course on the same stretch coming back I got down to 3.8 mph. There was a nice crowd at the top cheering people on. I just need more practice. I'm also on a fitness hybrid and biking in running shoes. I am a bit disapointed in the overall split, I had hoped for 15 or 16 mph, but I keep telling myself it was my first race. What would you do differently?: Upgrade to clips and bike shoes. Transition 2
Comments: Guy next to me racked his bike wrong and I couldn't get mine to rack. I ran around both sides a few times trying different things and finally I ended up having to physically lift up the bar to get my bike under it. Very frustrating! What would you do differently?: Not much different you can do there, just gotta hope the people next to you do what they should Run
Comments: Was surprised to see my ranking was the highest for running. I didn't feel like I pushed it at all. The temps were extremely hot and humid at this point and I just focused on finishing without hurting myself. I was very glad to have both a visor and sunglasses at this point! What would you do differently?: Nothing given the circumstances. Post race
Warm down: Nothing formal, walked around, got my bike to my car. I totally spaced on stretching and can feel it today. What limited your ability to perform faster: Fear of open water swimming; no road bike or clips; high temps on the run. Event comments: I would definitely do this race again. Great positive energy, lots of volunteers... Well run! Last updated: 2009-08-13 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:45, fed the dogs, threw my gear in the car and went. It was a 2 hour drive so there was no dilly dallying around. At the race sight the more experience athletes were so great in helping me get set up. I learned a few tricks with tape and transition set up from them.
None, thought about it but in the end just lined up and went.
