Swim
Comments: Swim was tough due to the big crowd mass start...got kicked in the nose, and also got my goggles kicked off my face. Heavy contact throughout much of the swim was a problem. The other issue was the very warm water. Should have traded speed and raced in a sleeveless. That was a mistake for sure. I was dehydrated significantly coming off the swim Transition 1
Bike
Comments: I took in too many calories early on the bike, and I became bloated. This led to further dehyration. I felt controlled throughout the bike and moved up to 18th in my AG when I came into T2 Transition 2
Run
Comments: I was unable to do much run training due to my leg, calf, achilles issues. I knew going in that this would be a problem, but thought that maybe with less running my legs would be fresh. I had to resort to vicadin to get me through the run due to my hip pain. I was seen by an MD on Saturday who ruled out a stress fracture, and diagnosed me with bursitus in my hip. I suffered on the run and wanted to quit throughout the entire run. I never felt good, and had to walk more times than I can count. I walked through every aid atation to get some nutrition in me. I was thirsty all day and felt like I never could get right. I was looking for someone with a gun at the aid stations, and I am 50/50 that I would have used it to put me out of my misery. IM #6 was a bitch for me, and makes the other 5 look easy! I moved up to 7th in my AG on the run, and missed out on Hawaii as there were 5 slots in my AG. I was amazed I broke 4 hours on the run, as I was reduced to walking a bunch, but I guess if you keep moving forward, you eventually get to the finish. Post race
Event comments: I did CDA earlier this year, and I felt good all day long. Because of my screwed up left leg, I just did not get the run training in that I normally do for an IM. I was reduced to aqua running in my pool. While good, it is NOT the same as the hard stuff. This was the hardest of my 6 IM races, and ironically, I finished better in my AG at IMOOO than CDA. I continue to be close to garnering a Kona Slot, but 10' has kept me away at both CDA/IMOO. I have done Hawaii, so I am glad for the guys who are going who haven't been there. I think I will get back to Kona, but I need to be 99.9% healthy going into the race to have a chance. Leading up to IMW, my longest run was "one" 15 miler, then I got injured. On the Wednesday before the race, I could not even run a mile due to the pain in my hip. I almost pulled the plug on IMOO, but had already spent a crapload of $ and I am a cheap bastard, and stuborn, so I gave it a "go"... IM #6 in the books, and I am contemplating retirement....signed....Brett Farve.... Last updated: 2009-08-13 12:00 AM
