Pre-race routine:

Decided to carpool to race with some Triteam members, two of whom like to arrive at the race site at 6:15 for 8:00 start. Sooo, I got up earlier than I had planned and was out of the house by 5. Brought pb&j sandwich and mug of coffee in car.
Event warmup:

Well, being among the first to show up means you get to pick the best location to rack your bike. Saw Scott and his two girls, who were volunteering for the day. Also saw Kevin G and Emily G before the race and wished them well. Set up transition, portapotty, took a 12 minute spin on the bike and scoped out the swim. Drank a lot of water, as it's gonna be a hot race. Ate a gel about 15 minutes before swim.
Swim

  • 880 yards
  • 02m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

The glare was horrific after rounding the last turn and I, along with a whole group of folks, got a bit off-course. I couldm't see the last bouy.

Swimming is my weakest link, and I have to say this was the best "feeling" swim. I found a good pace, I didn't panic, and even drafted off a couple of folks.

Transition 1
  • 02m 34s
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on my transitions -- they are too long.
Bike
  • 41m 59s
  • 12.3 miles
  • 17.58 mile/hr
Comments:

I started out too hard on the bike for the first couple of miles -- then settled in at a comfortable pace. It was getting hot and I wanted to save something for the 4.4 mile run. Played leapfrog with a couple of other ladies.
Transition 2
  • 02m 7s

Run
  • 41m 25s
  • 4.4 miles
  • 09m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was hard, but satisfying. Around mile 2 I came up to a guy running about my pace, so we stayed together for the rest of the race. The run was in mostly neighborhood streets, so it was shady in spots.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, stretched, drank a lot, ate typical post-race goodies.

Event comments:

This is my first time participating in a Max Performance race, and I was pretty pleased. It was well-organized, lots of volunteers, and friendly people. I enjoyed this race and will definitely do it again.
