Swim
Comments: With a wave start there was lots of bumping initially. I stayed in the main lane the whole swim so with two loops there was lots of contact alll the way through. It was my first non-wetsuit olympic so I was mostly feeling out my pace and didnt push real hard but kept a consistent pace on the swim. The between loop part I did as part walk and part jog. I couldnt find a person my speed to draft being a slow swimmer for very long but I was for a couple of short periods and I recogized some others drafting behind me. Whether they did it intentionally or not I dont know. I felt them hitting my feet and I moved over and swam harder to get them away from my feet. What would you do differently?: Push harder. Transition 1
Comments: Did about 15 seconds faster in this race better than usual. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: I was instructed by my coach to take it easier on the bike so I could push it hard on the run. I could have pushed it more on the bike on the flatter areas. My avg watts were only 167 average which is well below my normal average. I backed off of what I could do in areas where my speed was acceptible at lower watts. What would you do differently?: If I was racing it without special instructions I would have pushed harder in general but much more on the flatter areas. Transition 2
Comments: This was by far my best T2. The only mistake I made was a split second lack of memory of which bike aisle I was to go down. What would you do differently?: Remember the correct aisle. Run
Comments: I was a little slow on the hilly trail portion but I really did got into a good strong pace on the road portion. The first loop was particularly strong (for me) with 8:30 to 8:45 miles. The fatigue set in much more in miles 4-5 in the 2nd loop. What would you do differently?: Probably just tough it out more and push the pace. I think I could have squeaked out another minute or two from my time. Post race
Warm down: Very fatigued becuase I sprinted the finish. I walked for about 3-4 mins and then got some water. What limited your ability to perform faster: The special instructions I believe limited my time but this was a training race anyway so I dont mind. Event comments: It was a very good race in my Half Ironman training and I accomplished my goal for the race/training although I would have liked to have a better time. I am still middle of the pack slow but doing well considering I have only been doing tri's for a year. Last updated: 2009-08-14 12:00 AM
