![]() Swim
Comments: Given that my last two races have been disasterous on the swim, this was an amazing improvement. there was plenty of room to spread out along the shore without adding distance to the swim, but everyone moved close to the buoys after the start anyway. the water was muddy and much warmer than what I had been training in. felt like swiming in pee. It's a nice place but not much on the horizon to use as sighting. What would you do differently?: Warm-up in the water, even just 25m out and back. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: actually asked a competitor how she managed to get her suit off so fast... she said "bodyglide". I have since stocked up. What would you do differently?: body glide. I'm also very careful taking off the suit so I don't tear it... maybe I could be a little more reckless with it. ![]() Bike
Comments: I didn't hold much back for the bike, though I was under the impression that it was going to be a loop. I kept passing all these fit 50 year olds with really nice bikes on the downhill and they would pass me on the uphill. My crap roadbike is no comparison, they were working so much less. There was vehicular traffic on the road and this caused problems, especially on the way back, as most of the traffic was large trucks pulling trailers that took up the whole road. I definitely pushed harder than in the past, I figure biking is my strongest suit, I should make it work for me. What would you do differently?: a better bike. I love my road bike but maybe it's time to retire it to commuting? ![]() Transition 2
Comments: quick ties for my running shoes would probably be helpful. My transition times were the major difference between me and the few infront of me. What would you do differently?: quick ties, the bungee kind ![]() Run
Comments: Having my watch with me was really motivational. Seeing that the first k was under 5 min, I was motivated to try to do the next 2 at that pace. by the time I got to the first turn around I had past a couple in my age group and focused on getting past a couple more. managed to maintain that pace to the end. What would you do differently?: nothing, i was so happy to be under 5min/km ![]() Post race
Warm down: walked around the finish area waiting for a friend. Event comments: just enough hills on the bike, a bit tight on the run in terms of passing people but for the most part the racers are spread out at this point. The finish is great overlooking the gorge for the last 400m straight to the finish line. Last updated: 2009-08-15 12:00 AM

white bread toast with jam and a homemade latte, but we spent the night prior in guelph and I ended up settling for OJ and a bagel.
The line up to the parking was so long that by the time we got into the park I let my friend park and I got in line for the portopotty. Literally had 12 min to register and get set up before the start. no warm-up today.
