Swim
Comments: Swim was far. Had a pretty good swim for me. But, got to the buoy at just over 9 minutes. Crazy. Kept going for what felt like an hour. Finished the swim in 19:19. I estimate that the swim was 1000 M. (It was at least 950M) What would you do differently?: Nothing really. My sighting still needs work. Still tend to do breaststroke to site, itstead of keeping my momentum. But, overall this is pretty good considering I haven't been swimming much. Transition 1
Comments: Definitely took a few extra seconds try to gather myself after the longish swim. Overall, it was fine. Could have pushed it a little more. Wetsuit came off really well. Bike
Comments: The wind was tough at least 15 mph. Felt like I was into the wind the whole ride (which obviously I wasn't). I was really trying hard to break 20 mph for the first time. But, felt like I was losing the battle. Got a second wind for the last couple miles and pushed hard. What would you do differently?: Train more biking. I just haven't put the time in to really get a lot better. I am getting better really slowly, but need to really focus on bike training this off-season. Transition 2
Comments: Had a good running dismount. Made a quick change. Realized I forgot to unpack my run visor. Thought oh well, guess I will run without it. Stopped for a water on the way out, which cost me a few seconds. What would you do differently?: Wear my visor. Run
Comments: My legs were like jello from all the biking in the wind. But, I really wanted to break 22:00 and ideally 7:00 pace. Hit the first mile mark at 7:01. Was feeling optimistic then hit the turn around and realized the second half would be right into the wind. Kept pushing hit the second mile at 14:03. It was getting pretty hot, and the wind was killing me. Definitely started slowing down. After a left turn toward the finish, I got a burst of energy from not being into the wind anymore and finished the last half mile really well. Broke 22 for the first time in a tri, but just missed the 7:00 barrier. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I was really happy with this run for me. Definitely my best in a tri, and really had to battle mentally the whole way. Post race
Warm down: Gatorade What limited your ability to perform faster: My biggest thing is a need to train on the bike more. I think I can get to 22 MPH for this race next year. Event comments: This is a great venue, and the race is well run and organized. The early start is rough, but worth it to miss the heat. My only complaint is that the swim seemed really long for the Sprint race this year. Which doesn't bother me, but just be accurate on the reported distance. The lead guy who runs the microphone at this race is as good as they come. Keeps everyone informed and keeps the whole thing running smoothly. I foresee doing this race every year. Up at 3:20, left the house at 3:50. Got to the race in perfect timing, got to set up and have a nice warm up swim. Water was great.
