Swim
Comments: Improved by about 4 minutes from my last oly swim time. Definately felt the effects of not warming up because once I started going my legs started to feel a little heavy. After about the first half though they came back. On the first leg my sighting was horrible. One itme I picked my head up and was surprised I was not on the shore. After correcting myself I was able to sight much better by lifting my head more often to find the bouy. Sighted well and felt good on the second half and pushed it into the finish after the final turn. What would you do differently?: Be aware of and start sighting immediately. Warm up a little more before getting in the water. Eat a gel before getting in the water. Transition 1
Comments: Got out of the water and had a good pace up into the transition area. my cap, googles were off and my suit was halfway off by the time I got to my rack. Got to my rack and the wetsuit flew off (body glide works). Put on my bike shorts first, then my socks, then my bike shoes, then my shirt, then my helmet and glasses. Went to remove my bike from the rack and it would not roll out from under the rack so I had to lift the entire rack up and inch or two to squeeze it under. What would you do differently?: Need to improve on this transition. the first thing is to make sure my bike can be easily unracked. second, I need to look into getting tri shorts and a racing jersey. putting on all these different outfits is slowing me down and not really worth it. Also, think about going sockless on the bike and maybe having shoes clipped into the bike. Bike
Comments: SLOW. I thought I would get around a 1:15 on this portion but unfortunately I was 4 minutes slow. The fastest people in my group were at 1:11 and I need to catch them. Started out of the park just trying to get my legs settled and into the biking mode. Did not really try to push it on the first two miles and just keep a high cadence. from then on I just biked by feel but never really felt like I was truely pushing myself on the bike. I needed to push myself harder and be more aware of my timing on the bike. I did not really keep track on my time as I was riding. Also, need to get into the aero position more and stay in it longer at the start of hills. I think that can definatly keep my speed up. Since I was first in the swim I saw the 5 guys who beat me on the bike fly by me but could not stay with them. I pushed it on the last few miles as I headed into T2. What would you do differently?: Push myself harder on the bike. I know I need to save some for the run but I can definatley go faster on the bike. Keep track of time in order to know where I am at and if I need to increase my speed. Bring one or two more gels on the bike and no sports beans (horrible idea). Look into the usefulness of a powermeter. If I get passed by someone try to stay with them for at least a little while if possible. Transition 2
Comments: Slipped out of my shoes before dismounting and did a moving dismount. Perfect 10. Went from on the bike to running right into T2. Slipped off my bike shorts, put on my shoes and was gone. Only ate one gel as I left T2. What would you do differently?: Bring an extra gel for the end of the run. Run
Comments: Felt really good on the run. I think the first mile was at about an 8:15 pace and then I picked it up from there. Had to stop and tie my shoes right after mile one. The hills were rough but I was able to push it up all of them. Started to pick it up with about 1.5 miles to go and sprinted the last .2 miles. What would you do differently?: Bring an extra gel to use for the last 2 miles. Push it just a little bit harder and get closer to a 7:30 pace. Had a good amount left in the tank at the end and would have liked ot have used it on the course. Make sure shoes are tied well when leaving T2. I think I can shave about 1- 1:30 off this time easily. Post race
Warm down: Drank alot of gatorade, ate a bagel and a banana (stomach didnt really want anything else). stretched out a little bit and walked around while waiting for the awards ceremony. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just need to push it a little harder on the bike and one the second half of the run. Great race and next year my goal is sub 2:30. Event comments: Love the course and it was run very smoothly. Will be doing this race for years to come. Last updated: 2009-08-17 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30 ( 4 hours before my wave start ). Ate a bowl of cereal and a banana and headed to the park. Got to the park right before the rush into the parking lot but did not like all the rain that I saw. Instead of getting into the transition area right away, I waited till about 550 before heading in there. It was steady rain the entire time I was setting up and definately should have brought some plastic. Ate a cliff bar and drank a gatorade at about 645.
Should have warmed up, wanted to warm up... didnt warm up. I just never had the opportunity to get a warm up in. Stretched in the grass near the swim start but never got my heart going. From now on need to get a jog in or try to swim a little bit. (the rain didnt help much with this though)
