Run
Comments: The 4:15 pace group started a little fast so I did not try to stick with it Everything went pretty well, the bridge felt good, the tunnel was challenging as always (my legs felt like rubber). Going through downtown was great, lots of spectators Arond mile 15 to 16, I started again thinking about walking. I kept myself going negotiating that I would run until Belle Isle. I finally managed that but it was already tough. The first cramp happened around mile 17 at a waterstation, in my throat (not pleasant!). The cramps would get worse and worse, when I finished I had cramps pretty much everywhere, calves, throat, back, arms On Belle Isle, at mile 19.75 I started walking, but at least I managed to stick to a 0.8M run - 0.2M walk scheme until around mile 24. I was hoping to at least stick to the run-walk strategy and be able to run longer stretches towards the end. At that point I was still hoping to break 4:30. Unfortunately, my race fell even further apart around mile 24, with erratic run-walk segments... What would you do differently?: I dont know, I felt great, had 2 20milers in the bank, and of course had done a much longer event just one month ago... One thing I certainly need to do is loose weight! Post race
Warm down: Stayed on my feet, got a food bag but only drank the water Right after the race, my legs felt thrashed What limited your ability to perform faster: Weight? Event comments: The post race activities right there in the chute were disappointing, but I did not stick around for the larger post-race party There were a lot of fluid stations! Left around 5.15,race would start at 7.15am
Traffic was very easy, was in my parking spot at 6am
Had usual breakfast, bottle of HEED, lifBar and two bananas
Temps were around 35F, but it did not feel quite as cold as I expected
I used a garbage bag to stay a little warmer
Was dressed up with long sleeved Adidas shirt plus sleeveless windbreaker
Did not take drink with me as all other nutrition fit nicely into my pockets
No warmup really
Race started in pace corrals, that worked very well
I sorted in right behind the 4:15 pace group at the end of my corral, that meant comparably easy running for a while
