Overall Rank = 117/170
Age Group = 18-29
Age Group Rank = 11/13
Pre-race routine:

40 minute drive to get there, so good amount of time to wake up and get excited. Ate a small breakfast of yogurt and granola.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 20m 55s
  • 1320 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

I started out in the back of the pack, but then started getting passed by other waves of swimmers and got a little down on myself and my performance. I kept a steady pace of crawl, going to breast a couple of times to gain some ground in a straight line. The last 1/2 felt fast, although I had to navigate a man in front of me who I couldn't pass, but was in my way.
What would you do differently?:

Go out stronger and be more confident in passing people, holding my own.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Average transition. Felt a little slow getting on shoes and shirt over suit.
What would you do differently?:

Need better gear
Bike
  • 1h 03m 27s
  • 15 miles
  • 14.18 mile/hr
Comments:

I love this bike ride. I felt tired when I first got on the bike though, and that slowed me down a little. I didn't feel effective on hills, and felt like I slowed down on some of the flats because of that. Overall I think I wasn't as effective as getting in to the right gear as I could have been.
There was some issue with dealing with the cars on the road not knowing how to deal with the bikers, unfortunate but will always be a part of this race. Although a lot of the road conditions were good, there were some rough roads that proved uncomfortable.
What would you do differently?:

Not work out so hard close to the race, I think that left my legs tired. I needed to do some more hill work too, I wasn't as effective on them as I could have been.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Good transition. I did some stretching on my bike as I came down the ending hill to help with the leg transition and it definitely did. I was a little sloppy putting my bike on the rack.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really, maybe go faster down the final hill.
Run
  • 38m 17s
  • 4.2 miles
  • 09m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

This run is so hard. You start on one of the steepest hills in any run I've done. Most people walk it. I ran at first, and then had to walk some. And it just gets worse, not the size of the hills, but they just keep coming. When you do get to the flat it is wide open and the beating sun is ruthless. They do a good job with water stations, and you have to use it to cool yourself down or this is really a miserable run. Once you start back, it is a bit easier, but you still have a pretty steep hill to get over. Oy. It was a tough one this year, with no breeze what so ever and really tired legs. I pushed hard, I got through it, but I would have liked to have been faster.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder at the end, not worry so much about losing it. Drank more during the bike. Done more hill runs.

Event comments:

I love this race. It is well organized, well run and a beautiful course overall. I'll be back, year after year.
