Swim
Comments: I'm not actually sure the distance of the swim because all the paperwork said .25 miles but on raceday the race director announced it was a .35 mile swim. Also, after the first start group (39 and under) a buoy came loose making the course about 25% shorter for the other competitors. This made the swim times and overall times inaccurate. The water was very warm and calm and the swim was with the current. What would you do differently?: Now that I have the feel for an open water swim I would definitely swim faster next time. I was worried that I would get tired so I didn't go at my fastest speed. Transition 1
Comments: The transition area was crowded and also was on a loose gravel parking lot with some sharp rocks. Overall I wanted to go faster than 2:10 but I was satisfied. I placed 178th overall (Right in the middle). What would you do differently?: I think I would set it up differently next time. My things were in different places so I had to find them and grab them. Bike
Comments: I did not have a good bike. I don't think I passed one person the whole time. My quads were sore in the first mile. I also should have drank more. My goal was to be under 40 minutes and I was pretty close. I was suprised at how fast some of the bikers were going. I was not at all happy with how I felt or how I performed here. What would you do differently?: I would increase my training so I wouldn't feel as tired as early as I did. Transition 2
Comments: I definety rocked this transition. I was 16th in the whole race. This one made up for a poor T1. Coming in though I got off my bike too early and I was yelled at for it. O well. There was a guy holding a stop sign and pointing to the ground so I thought I was supposed to get off there but apparently not. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I really did well here. Everything was a lot smoother than T1. Run
Comments: I did really well on the run. My pace was 7:09 miles. I am a track/ cross country runner so this is definetly my strength. It seemed like almost everyone that passed me on the bike I passed on the run. I even stopped to stretch because my calf was getting tight. The only problem was that I was almost hit by a car coming out of T2 because the race was so disorganized. The roads were not closed and the residents were not told that there was going to be a race. What would you do differently?: Nothing. But the race officials should notify residents of the race and close of the roads. After I finished a fire engine came out and stopped blocking the run out and bike in completely for almost a minute. This is just unacceptable the race should have been much more organized. Post race
Warm down: Nothing really. Stretched a bit, walked around and got some fruit. Cheered on other finishers. What limited your ability to perform faster: Me myself and I. Although the race was unorganized I don't think it limited my ability to perform well. Next time if I want to get better I just have to train harder and race faster. Event comments: Personally I would rate my performace a 5/5. I beat my goal of 1:10 by almost three minutes. However the race was very unorganized. Last updated: 2009-08-18 12:00 AM

Got into transition area and set up. Waited a half hour for the bathroom. Waited for pre-race meeting and start.
Not much, stretched a bit and jogged.
