Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 6 for a 9 am start
Ate light breakfast..eggs, bacon, potatoes, OJ and coffee
drank quart of water between 7:30 and start
Event warmup:

drove to parking lot and rode bus to start point

Swim
  • 38m
  • 1900 meters
  • 02m / 100 meters
Comments:

start was a normal chaotic one, hands and feet everywhere
took a good kick to the ribs
slowed down a bit to let the group break up and catch my breath back
What would you do differently?:

start closer to the front and swim alot faster when starting, then reduce to normal pace.
Would put me out away from the mass
Transition 1
  • 05m 30s
Comments:

took time to eat a PB+J and get some hydration down
What would you do differently?:

make a nutrition plan that does not take up time in T1
Bike
  • 3h 54m
  • 90 kms
  • 23.08 km/hr
Comments:

didn't have a good nutrition plan, couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting up to cruising speed.
Once I figured out lack of nutrition, attempted to make up for it but it was too late
What would you do differently?:

pound more calories earlier and more frequently, set a clock to eat by

3 gels and 2 half bananas were not enough
Transition 2
  • 02m 32s
Comments:

very organized event
Event helpers were on the spot, took my bike, grabbed my bag, even helped get my stuff out of the bag
What would you do differently?:

know how far it is to the transition sites, know the flow better
Run
  • 2h 26m 36s
  • 13.11 miles
  • 11m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

beautiful run thru the park, lots of spectators along the whole course.
Had to make 4 loops, you got a different colored arm band every loop
What would you do differently?:

was already hurting from the lack of nutrition on the bike, tried to make up for lost nutrition, but couldn't get it back.

Would start nutrition plan way earlier in bike
Post race
Warm down:

walk around for 5 minutes, took shower

What limited your ability to perform faster:

nutrition

Event comments:

A very organized and supported race. There was a 1:1 ratio of volunteers to athletes. Didn't matter if who you were, all had the same level of treatment. Great dinner afterwards, lots of tables for massages.

Only bad part of whole race was bike checkout, took forever (over an hour), could have used a few more people verifying our equipment at the end.
