Total Time = 3h 22m 30s
Overall Rank = 278/313
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 30/32
Pre-race routine:

Try to keep calm and concentrate on doing what I can to finish.
Swim
  • 41m 24s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

Was alot tougher than other open water swims I had done for practice. Was hoping to finish swim in 35 min or less. Bottle neck at exit, but was very happy to have solid ground under my feet!!! Did not exert too much energy and was eager to start the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Not panic and just try to get into some type of rythm, as hard as it may bee, anything was better than how I started but next time I will have a better idea of what to expect.
Transition 1
  • 02m 42s
Comments:

Don't have tri shoes and did not have them clipped into pedals to start. Got good spot for exit, of transition, but was a long distance from entrance from swim. There was a slight jog from exit of swim to entrance of transition area.
What would you do differently?:

Not much to improve on with current equipment, possibly better time when using tri specific shoes and not wearing socks.
Bike
  • 1h 27m 13s
  • 24.9 miles
  • 17.13 mile/hr
Comments:

Overall my favorite part of the race. Passed more people than I was passed by. Pushed a little harder in the second of 2 loops but road was mostly dry by then and I knew what to expect for the climb.
What would you do differently?:

Get a little more confident with the aero bars. Possibly get a actual tri bike, but wife might divorce me for spending that much money. LOL!! Keep training, this is my favorite event, I got plenty of room to improve.
Transition 2
  • 01m 53s
Comments:

Same as getting in, with out tri specific bike shoes, not much time savings by exiting shoes while still clipped in. Almost bit it at exit, paing on street was very slick. Got a little light headed when trying to tie running shoes
What would you do differently?:

Either get some tri specific running shoes or at least some speed laces. More practice going from biking to running. Not just the actual transition but actually running some distance.
Run
  • 1h 09m 19s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 11m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

I SUCK AT RUNNING!!!!!!! I knew going in that it would be my weakest portion. Calfs were cramping alot and I needed to walk more than I would have liked. Met another female competator on the return course who was very encouraging, tried to keep up as best I could but just couldn't do it. Her support was greatly appreciated (Thanks Valerie!!!) just wish I could have kept up. Next time...
What would you do differently?:

Train more for the run portion. I hate running so this might be a tough one. Also practice biking and transition into running, hopefully avoid the excessive cramping.
Post race
Warm down:

Only walked a little bit BIG MISTAKE, need to stretch alot more but family was all around and it really started raining.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not alot of external forces limited my performance, the current in the beginning of the swim was alot tougher than I thought, but everone else had to deal with it too. I basically trained enough to finish, gotta step it up for the next time!!

Event comments:

Don't have much to base my evaluation on, this was my first one. It was an overall great experiencd and I can't wait to do another one. The bug has got me!!!

Course: Aprox first 1/3 up stream and into wind. Could not get into breathing/stroke rythm, kept getting a mouth full of water due to slight chop. Seamed like first 1/3 of swim took just as long as the other 2/3. Let my self start in the back of the pack but by the time I got to the first bouy, the 2nd and 3rd waves were beginning to catch me.
