Swim
Comments: Zig-zagged the whole way. One time someone in a kayak even came over and politely told me I was going the wrong direction. Also, got extremely hungry about halfway through even though I thought I ate a ton of food beforehand. What would you do differently?: Learn how to sight. This was my first OWS. Eat more before the race. Transition 1
Comments: Put socks on and still had running shoes/toe clips with cheap road bike. Bike
Comments: Suprised I made it. Longest ride at this point was 15 miles and I had logged 73 miles total on a bike. Took in two gu's, but what I needed either solid food or more food before the race. What would you do differently?: Already have bought a tri bike and an aero bottle. Dropped my bottle of gatorade trying to put it back in the downtube cage when it was still half full and it cost me bad later on the run. Transition 2
Comments: Didn't have to change shoes so I grabbed my race belt and a gu and blew through the transition. Run
Comments: Took about 3 miles of walking/running to recover from the bike, had a good couple thousand meters, then lack of electrolytes kicked in and hurt me bad. No gatorade on the course was killer. With 100+ deg. heat at this time, I'm surprised I was able to finish with my conditioning. Drank water at every rest stop, but that wasn't enough, I cramped up so bad right before the finish i wasn't sure i would make it, but i pushed through. As soon as I got done, downed a bottle of gatorade and my cramps immediately went away. What would you do differently?: Should have had a way to intake more electrolytes during this run. Post race
Warm down: Beer What limited your ability to perform faster: Electrolytes/nutrition (needed more of both, during and after) Event comments: The bike is a tough one and the run was hot. Should have been gatorade on the run. Pretty good course overall though. Last updated: 2009-08-19 12:00 AM
