![]() Swim
Comments: Fourth OWS. Learned how to sight and it made a huge difference! I actually swam straight this time! What would you do differently?: Swim harder. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Had slightly more trouble getting into my shoes while pedaling than I do in practice, but that's only about a few seconds of difference. What would you do differently?: Not much, it was the 5th fastest T1 ![]() Bike
Comments: Was doing great until I turned to actually go with the wind for a mile or two and flew right by a turn. I had the wind at my back finally and was in the zone, didn't even see the small sign and since the water stop/people I was looking for to indicate a turn were off the left quite a ways, I never saw anyone. Luckily after around a mile down the road one of the volunteers managed to chase me down in his truck and let me know I missed a turn. And at least by the time I got back on track, there were people in front of me now to keep my motivated to push myself and keep going. What would you do differently?: Study the course and not take it for granted that there will always be volunteers at each turn. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Went sockless for the first time and it felt great! It wasn't until the last couple of miles that any hotspots really started popping up, but they were quite bearable and next time I'll have them coated properly. What would you do differently?: Pick up the pace. ![]() Run
Comments: Because of the tri bike my legs were much fresher and I'm assuming because of training, I didn't have to stop and stretch in the first few miles to recover from the bike. I kept a decent pace the whole way and my heart rate was never all that high, but my legs were of course still quite dead as usual. Only walked a few times, and only then because of a really steep hill where I figured it would be more efficient. What would you do differently?: Run harder, think I had some more in my legs, but I'm still getting a feel for running after biking. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Beer. What limited your ability to perform faster: Missing a turn on the bike, and learning my limits of how hard I can push myself before I exhaust my glycogen stores. Event comments: Not a bad race. The swim was great, plenty of water stops, the run was decent, however, the bike could have used a volunteer at the turn I missed as well as some better roads. Eat as much as I could stand and then eat some more. Seriously, I was stuffing my face from the time I got up until the race started. And then had a clif bar about 15 min. before and a gu a couple of minutes before race start. Worked great!
Went to the bathroom.
