Swim
Comments: Had a lot of trouble getting to the first buoy. I was very uneasy in the water with all of the people around me. Must have stopped a half-dozen times after being kicked or kicking someone else. I was half-panicked about 50 yards in. After the first buoy, I settled down a bit and actually swam really well for me. What would you do differently?: Just be more comfortable in the water with all the thrashing around. There were only about 50 of us in my wave, but it was definitely a new experience for me. I had no trouble with the distance after I got settled in. Actually, I wished the swim would last a little longer as I was starting to enjoy myself. Transition 1
Comments: Shirt stuck to me, but only cost me a few seconds. Couldn't get my helmet to tighten- also cost me a few seconds. Should have gone w/out socks as that is what took the longest in this transition. What would you do differently?: Get a tri shirt I can swim in and a race belt to attach number to. Compete w/out socks. Bike
Comments: Felt like I was flying on the bike today. I must have passed 40 people on the bike. Uphill, downhill, corners, it was really motivating to be passing so many people!! I did have two people smoke by me, but I was ok with it. What would you do differently?: Maybe a little speed work, but I feel like I rode as well as I possibly could. Transition 2
Comments: Had a little trouble racking my bike as the guy next to me had taken my spot and I was forced to rack on top of my stuff. Not too big of a deal though. Forgot to take my helmet off...stupid. Only cost me a few seconds though. What would you do differently?: Unbuckle helmet as I run to transition spot. Run
Comments: Never really got my legs on the run. Started off slow trying to find my legs, but was never really able to pick up the pace too much. Think my mile splits were 8:12, 8:00, 7:48. Would have liked to have run this under 22, but no complaints. What would you do differently?: Just need more run training. Had really only built up to about 5 miles before the race and definitely didn't have the endurance I needed. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: I had only decided to do this race 5 weeks before the start so I obviously hadn't built up the mileage needed for the run. I had some confidence in the swim, but all of that was completely shot in the first 50m. Just more experience will get me through that. I bought my bike 4 weeks ago and put in some serious mileage, but not much speed work. Event comments: I dont have any other races to compare this to, but it seemed to be run very well. Everything was on time and well marked/explained. My only complaint would be the lack of post-race activities. There was absolutely nothing. I am completely hooked on this sport now. I absolutely cannot wait until next season. Last updated: 2009-08-23 12:00 AM

My first tri, so I got to the site early, set up transition, had the standard clif bar/banana breakfast, tried not to vomit. Unfortunatly, I had to wait over two hours for my race to start so my stomach was not cooperating with me.
Porta-Jon X 2. Thats about it.
