Swim
Comments: Swim wasn't too bad. I felt good and didn't get too tired..swam side stroke about 90% of the swim and ended up passing quite a few people who were doing freestyle..that made me happy. What would you do differently?: Get my freestyle endurance down and do more freestyle. Transition 1
Comments: I felt good coming out of the water but once I got to the top of the hill that we had to run into transition a wave of nausea came over me and I ended up hugging a tree and throwing up. Thought I was done and started running to my bike and had to go back to the tree and continue.. yuck. Got to my bike and had to sit down to regain my composure. Slipped my cycling shoes (tri-vents) on with no socks and I was off. What would you do differently?: Spend less time throwing up!! Bike
Comments: I felt pretty good on the bike. I made it up all the hills without too much trouble. Never got off my bike and had a good ride. What would you do differently?: Ride more in preparation for the race. Transition 2
Comments: Hard to run with cleats on my tri shoes. My left quad started cramping on the run from the dismount to the transition area. Racked bike, took helmet off, threw on my Zoots with no socks (love these shoes), put hat and race belt and was off.. What would you do differently?: Figure out a way to run without cycling shoes on!! Run
Comments: Well running is my main sport, so I thought this would be a breeze... until my quads started cramping. Started with left one in run to transition and continued on the run. Stopped to stretch and was still seizing so had to walk a bit. Started to run and then the other one started seizing..this continued the entire run and I walked probably more than half the run. Very disappointing to me.. I am usually a 25 minute 5k'er. :( What would you do differently?: Figure out why I cramped. I didn't eat much at all that morning, but felt I took in enough fluids..maybe try salt tablets? Post race
Warm down: Met up with family and friends and had a banana and some water. Wasn't feeling hungry at all and couldn't stomach anything. What limited your ability to perform faster: Something wasn't right with my fluid/sodium intake and with the cramping on the run and the throwing up after the swim.. I definitely lost a lot of time! Event comments: Loved the atmosphere of this race and it was so well organized. Had a great time and will do it again! Last updated: 2009-08-24 12:00 AM

Got up at 4am.. had 1/2 cup of coffee and tried to eat a bit of a Luna bar, but really wasn't feeling hungry. Had to leave the hotel by 4:45 and never ended up eating anything else.
No warm-up.
