I could not ever seem to get up to speed on the bike. about 1/4th into the course I ran over a sticker that remained stuck to the tire and would not come off. I don't think that it slowed me down any as much as it was just annoying. I finally got it loose at the turn around. My goal was to average 23 plus mph on a very flat and smooth course, but just did not have it in me this day.

Try to get more sleep.
