Swim
Comments: Good swim. I seeded myself a little earlier this time to avoid some of the congestion. It worked out well. I did get the tap on the foot on the fifth lap, and let someone by at the wall, but it didn't really hold me up any. Swim felt pretty routine, pace was fine. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 1
Comments: This wasn't good. Since I brought my bike to the TA in total darkness this morning, then went home, I didn't get a chance to really check everything out thoroughly. When I got to T1, the first thing I did was put on my sunglasses. I guess I was still in a daze from the swim or something, but it seemed that everything in one eye was dark ... uh oh, what's wrong with my eye ... wait take off the sunglasses ... damn, must have lost a lense sometime during transition setup. Oh well, no glasses. Everything just seemed slow here. What would you do differently?: Check out everything more thoroughly before I leave. Bike
Comments: Didn't feel like I had the legs for the bike today. Didn't seem to have that extra gear for some reason. There were a lot of people on the course and it seemed that you were constantly passing someone. It definately was a little dicey at times. Overall, not bad. Should have been better. What would you do differently?: Bike legs have been missing for a few months now. Not sure why. It feels harder than it should. Need to get a little more structure in my training. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty quick here. A little trouble with my socks, but that was it. What would you do differently?: Different socks. Run
Comments: I love a downhill start. It seems to get me into a good running groove. By the time I hit the first hill, I was feeling pretty good. Felt like I kept a consistent pace throughout, and had enough left for the big hill at the end. Never got passed and did quite a bit of passing. Nice kick at the finish. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I felt like my run was about as good as it gets relative to my current fitness level. Post race
Warm down: Cold towel, water, bagel. I needed to get back home, so got my bike and rode it back to the truck and headed home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Went into this race with the thought of using it as a hard training day, but ended up racing pretty hard. My Avg HR of 170 was about as high as I have seen for a sprint race. Event comments: This is a great local race that attracts a lot of competitors. It seems to have gotten bigger and better organized over the years. It was one that I like to do each year. It is also nice that it is only about 5 minutes from my house. Kind of a strange race for me. The race site is only about 5 minutes from my house and since me start time wasn't until 9:55 AM, decided I would just take my bike and stuff over at 6 AM, and then just come home until it was time for me to start. Worked out pretty well, got to the pool at 9:30, talked to a few friends, then got in line. Also, stuck with my normal breakfeast of cereal, and also a cup of coffee.
Since I was getting there late, I had to park at one of the lower lots in Tanglewood park. Decided I would use the 1-mile run to the pool as a warmup ... it is all uphill, but I have done that run many times so no big deal.
