Run
Comments: My brother and I ran the first part of the race together and then split off for the last half. First 6.5 miles were at a 7:30 pace, 163bpm and 89 cadence averages. Second 6.6 miles were at a 7:30 pace, 165bpm and 88cadence average. I guess my efforts to achieve negative splits were kinda successful in that I averaged the same for the first half as the last half of the race. What would you do differently?: Take advantage of a porta-potty on the run. Post race
Warm down: What cool-down? What limited your ability to perform faster: My left hamstring was either stiff or stiff and painful throughout the run. It seemed to hinder my efforts to maintain an increase in pace. Experienced GI distress at miles 9-13 (read as "last four miles were more uncomfortable than usual"). Should have stopped in a porta-potty but tried to tough it out. Probably would have been faster had I stopped. Event comments: So, overall I am happy. Great day racing and set a PR for a 1/2 marathon. Next goal is to hit 1:34. Kudos goes out my wife who ran her first Half-Mary in 1:49:31. Last updated: 2009-08-29 12:00 AM

My wife and I were both signed up for the race so getting up was easy as she would also be rising early. Woke up at 4:45, dressed and ate english muffin with almond butter and a banana. Drank water. Baby sitter came over at 5:50 and my bro picked us up at 6:00am. Got to course, picked up chip and said "hi" to a number of friends.
10 minutes of running. Left hamstring was still very tight from injury 10 days ago so did some light hamstring stretches.
