Swim
Comments: A pretty good swim, faster than I thought. The first with a top (Pearl Izumi Singlet). I went very wide around the first bouy, almost to the woman in the boat. I would have broken 9 minutes had I not done that. On the flip side I avoided collisions etc. with other swimmers but I think most of them were behind me in my wave. I couldn't tell, I don't wear corrective vision during the swim. What would you do differently?: Stay closer to the markers. Buy goggles with corrective vision. Transition 1
Comments: O.K. It's obvious I'm new at this. Got to practice T1. Do I go w/o socks? My transition location was not the best. It was all the way down where the run exit was. I had trouble clipping my helmet strap. What would you do differently?: Besides practice on just doing things faster? Get a better transition spot, figure out how to snap in the helmet faster (different helmet?). Bike
Comments: I've only been on a bike since late May so I'm not sure how to rate this performance. I think I did pretty good considering how new of a rider I am. Shifting was pretty good. I was off the saddle a couple of times, not because I had to but just to go faster. Mounting the bike and clipping in went smoother than I thought. What would you do differently?: Maybe ride harder (off the saddle more?). Not sure how much that can take away from the run. Transition 2
Comments: For a beginner maybe a T1 of 1:33 is O.K. I see some do it in 50-55 seconds, most ahead of me did it closer to 1 minute. I had to run the bike the entire length of the transtion area since I was on the far end where the run starts. I did use these little plastic quick tie things on my shoes (so you don't have to tie your laces (not sure what those things are called). What would you do differently?: Transition location more to the middle so I don't have the run the bike the whole way. Run
Comments: It felt like I was running an 8 minute mile, I wanted to go faster but it just wasn't there. I did pass a few people, this 20-30 year old guy passed me after about 1/3 of a mile and I stayed right behind him. Then I passed him after the halfway turn-around. I was suprised at my time, didn't feel like I was running at that pace. What would you do differently?: Not sure. Just train the run faster. Post race
Warm down: Not much, just stretched legs a little, had a banana, some strawberries, and a pepsi (I couldn't find a diet so I had regular). What limited your ability to perform faster: Experience. Event comments: 46th out of 431, not bad for my 4th triathlon. Given I've only done 4 I would say the event was well organized. Lots of volunteers, no confusion on which way to go/turn etc. For the run I did make a left out of the trans area when I should have made a right but we were told short course was to the right so my bad on that one (luckily I only took a few steps before correcting myself). I'll do this one next year for sure. Last updated: 2009-08-29 12:00 AM
