Swim
Comments: Good start, rounded the first bouy quickly. The wetsuit was great, made the swim much easier. Ran an early part of the race in about 4 feet of water since the guy running next to me was going as fast as I was swimming, saved some energy. Didn't really keep good form through the swim, occasionally breast / side stroking, but, never got really tired. The whole swim was crowded. Made quite a few passes and was passed a lot too. Gonna say it was an average swim, but, for me, I was pleased with it and felt good about it when I exited the water. What would you do differently?: Could have gone a little better by doing more freestyle and concentrating on form. Transition 1
Comments: Felt like a good transition, little wasted time. Didn't remove my wetsuit with my feet as that seems to cost me, but, was smooth with everything else. Shirt, glasses, helmet, good drink, grab the bike and go! Had shoes clipped in and ran barefoot, worked quite well on about 30 minutes of practice. What would you do differently?: Had to run around the rack to grab my bike, should have had my equipment set up in front of the bike. Would have saved maybe 7 seconds, not much. Also, need to run not jog through TA. Bike
Comments: Think I had another good (surprising?) ride, seemed to keep the same effort throughout. Past by some on the climbs, passed almost all of them on the desents and flats. Think I improved on the hills as the race went on. Only remember one rider that, I think, went by me and finished in front of me. Big chain ring most of the race (smallest spocket several times), middle chainring on some climbs. PS - After checking the splits, nobody pasxed me. What would you do differently?: Could have shifted a little cleaner on a few hills. Transition 2
Comments: Feet out of shoes at the right time, fast to the line, smooth from there. Rack, shoes, drink and go. So smooth I hesitated for a second after being ready thinking I must have forgotten something. Only bad part is I'm not a fast runner right now, so, it's takes time getting in and out of the TA. What would you do differently?: Don't hesitate. Learn to run faster. Run
Comments: My heart, lungs and energy were good, but, my legs had no spring.Passed by a lot of people, picked up the pace occasionally after being passed, but, would drop off after while. Time was faster than it felt. No knee problems. What would you do differently?: I either need more running or more bike/run brick work. Probably both. Should work on running this off season. Post race
Warm down: Water, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, watermelon and cookies! Walk it off some. Talk with a couple other racers. What limited your ability to perform faster: My run. I used to be fast, a loooong time ago. Can I get it back? Event comments: I would not nesitate running it again next year. Last updated: 2009-08-30 12:00 AM
